A talented tattoo artist and apparent Super Smash Bros. fan recently unveiled some new ink designs, all of which are inspired by the original installment of Nintendo's popular platform fighter series. Released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64 console, Super Smash Bros. saw the collaboration between several different Nintendo game franchises, such as Kirby, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and more. Now, over two decades later, the roster opened to franchises across a variety of developers and publishers - with the most recent addition being Square Enix and Disney's Kingdom Hearts protagonist, Sora.

Super Smash Bros. characters are frequently represented in fan artwork, with characters from the fighting series taking on new looks - thanks to either artistic license, the fusing of different games' art styles, and more. One artist redrew the entire Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster in the style of retro-looking indie game Cuphead. The graphic design behind Cuphead mirrors that of classic cartoons of the 1930s and 1940s, such as Popeye and early iterations of Looney Tunes. Thanks to a tattoo artists' creativity, though, Super Smash Bros. 64 characters are getting yet another retro look of their own.

Reddit user moshturd666 recently unveiled their new tattoo flash sheet (samples often hung in tattoo shops for clients to view), which includes American-traditional-style tattoo designs - but with a Nintendo-themed twist. Rather than displaying retro pin-up girls and anchors, moshturd666 fused the classic style with Super Smash Bros. 64 characters and icons. One tattoo - a traditional "Love Thy Neighbor" tattoo - has a whole new look, thanks to featuring Link's shield from The Legend of Zelda and two popular close-range Super Smash Bros. items (the hammer and the baseball bat). Similarly, an agitated-but-still-cute Kirby appears to replace a spider on a Sailor-Jerry-looking web. Although the video game and this tattoo style might seem to clash at first, both are blasts from the past and appear to seamlessly meld together.

Although the Super Smash Bros. series appears to be positioned at the most popular point in its existence, its future is in limbo following the recent departure of creator and director Masahiro Sakurai. In a supposedly leaked interview earlier this month, Sakurai revealed he wishes to leave Super Smash Brosin someone else's hands - but reportedly added, "Currently, I can't see a way to produce a Smash Bros title without my involvement." That said, there are no definitive announcements alluding to the end of Super Smash Bros., yet.

While Super Smash Bros. might night continue, a Super-Smash-Bros.-themed tattoo is forever. Those who wish to - permanently - honor the series through an American traditionalist style can look through moshturd666's impressive retro designs for inspiration. The real question, then, is which game franchise deserves to receive the honor of everlasting ink.
