Anya Taylor-Joy has taken to Instagram in reaction to her recent casting as Princess Peach in the upcoming film MARIO. The animated movie, set to release next year, will be an adaptation of the classic Nintendo video game series, Super Mario Bros, with many of the franchise's key characters set to make an appearance. One particular fan-favorite character is Princess Peach, who is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom and also Mario's love-interest. Throughout the games, Mario typically sets out to rescue Princess Peach, as she is, more than often than not, kidnapped by the bad-guys.

Joy is just one of the exciting names on a very star-studded line up for MARIO. Chris Pratt was confirmed to be voicing the titular character, with Charlie Day set to play his brother, Luigi. The franchise's two main antagonists, Bowser and Donkey Kong, will be played by Jack Black and Seth Rogen, respectively and Keegan-Michael Key will provide the voice for Toad. Fred Armisen, Kevin Michael Richardson and Sebastian Maniscalco will also appear in supporting roles. The film will be produced by Illumination (Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets and Sing), with Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic set to direct.

Now, Joy has reacted to the news of her upcoming role by taking to Instagram to share a sweet side-by-side photo. The post shows Princess Peach next to a photo of Joy with her long blonde hair in a bright pink ensemble, reminiscent of Peach's signature look. The actor also shared the cast list of her fellow co-stars for the movie, simply captioning the post "Here we gooooo" with a couple of heart emojis. Check out Joy's full post below.

News of Joy's addition to the movie was incredibly well received, with many excited to see what she will bring to the role. Following the success of The Queen's Gambit in 2020, Joy is set to be back on screens, albeit the big screen, soon as she is set to appear in Edgar Wright's upcoming horror, Last Night in Sohowhich releases next month. MARIO will not be Joy's first time stepping into the recording booth however, as she previously lent her voice to the character of Brea in Netflix's show The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Joy's career has spanned quite a variety of genres thus far, with a number of stand-out performances along the way. Her previous projects have certainly proved her star power and it will be exciting to see her tackle this new role. Judging by her reaction, it's clear to see Joy is just as excited to take on this role, as audiences are to see her in it. Little is known about the plot of the film at this time, but it's fair to assume that, with an actor of Joy's calibre behind the character, the film may potentially give Princess Peach a bigger role than fans would typically expect. Audiences can see what MARIO has in store for fans, when it releases on December 21, 2022.
