The Nintendo Switch might soon become the ultimate Super Mario Bros. machine, as there are rumors that most of the series' back catalogue will be coming to the system as part of the 35th-anniversary celebrations for the franchise. The Nintendo Switch has its own incredible Super Mario title in the form of Super Mario Odyssey, but there are plenty of other games from the franchise on the system.

The subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online service have access to the first three Super Mario Bros. games on the Nintendo Entertainment System, as well as The Lost Levels, Super Mario World, and Yoshi's Island. There is also Super Mario Maker 2, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Yoshi's Crafted World, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Mario Tennis Aces, and Luigi's Mansion 3. So the Switch isn't exactly hurting for Super Mario Bros. content.

2020 marks the 35th-anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. series and Nintendo could have huge plans to mark the occasion. According to rumors published by Eurogamer and VideoGamesChronicleNintendo is planning on remastering most of the Super Mario Bros. back catalogue for the Switch, along with releasing a new Paper Mario game. According to the rumors, Super Mario Galaxy is meant to be one of the games being remastered and a port of Super Mario 3D World is in the works. The reveal event was meant to happen at E3, but Nintendo will need a new plan, now that the event has been canceled.

Assuming that it's just the mainline entries in the series that will be ported, it seems likely that Super Mario 64 could be added as part of adding Nintendo 64 games to the Nintendo Switch Online service. Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 would likely require HD remasters in order to be ported to the Switch. Nintendo has hinted in the past that Super Mario Sunshine could be returning in some form. The early New Super Mario Bros. games could also warrant ports and it likely wouldn't take too much work to bring New Super Mario Bros. Wii up to modern graphical standards, as it's visuals still hold up.

Nintendo is already planning Super Mario Bros. Lego toy set for 2020, so it's clear that the company has big plans to celebrate the 35th-anniversary of the series. Ports of games like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy would be a huge deal for Nintendo fans and it would make the Switch the ultimate machine for platform gaming fans. The only question now is when Nintendo will announce these plans, assuming that they are true?
