Nintendo has revealed a brand-new trailer for its upcoming Switch title, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, which finally unveils its February 2021 release date. While Super Mario 3D World was originally released for the Wii U in 2013, Bowser’s Fury will be an entirely new entry to the Mario franchise.

Details on the rerelease of Super Mario 3D World, and the additional content of Bowser’s Fury, have been fairly sparse since its announcement last year. It has been confirmed that the Switch title will support online multiplayer, something that will undoubtedly be well-used given that a lot of the world’s gamers are facing waves of lockdown restrictions to help ease the spread of COVID-19. While the multiplayer will not feature any in-game chat mechanics, it will offer the chance to connect with up to three other players from across the globe, provided they have a Switch, an NSO account, and a copy of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.

Now Nintendo fans have been given a better look at what can be expected from Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury ahead of the game’s release next month. Sharing a two-minute trailer on its social media accounts, Nintendo has certainly put the fury into Bowser’s Fury. After an ominous and mysterious bell rings out, the video jumps to a bright and colorful playthrough; Mario can be seen working alongside Bowser Jr in a variety of guises, including his Tanooki Mario suit and Cat Mario suit. Bowser Jr meanwhile soars across the game with the same paintbrush that he used in Mario Sunshine, as the duo bop Goombas on the head and swipe away Piranha plants to a sprightly soundtrack. Things suddenly take a sinister turn though; as heavy metal inspired music begins to play, a super-sized (and super angry) Bowser emerges from a cloud of darkness. Gone are the playful scenes. Instead, Mario and Bowser Jr are left in a windswept and rain engulfed landscape, as they try to evade the fiery attacks of Bowser’s Fury and Mario unveils his latest ability: Lion Mario.

What has caused this infernal rage to consume Bowser in Bowser’s Fury is unclear. The fact that his offspring has joined forces with everyone’s favorite mustachioed plumber is surely enough to have got under his shell though. Nintendo recently debuted its new website for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, with the promise of more content to come. This may offer fans a bit more insight to what has caused this intense outrage from the giant King Koopa.

While the rerelease of previous Nintendo games in the Mario franchise in the form of Super Mario 3D Allstars was met with a lukewarm response, the announcement of a brand-new game included with Super Mario 3D world was a welcome relief for fans. Along with the release of the adorable new Cat Mario and Cat Peach amiibos, Nintendo will hopefully replace the recent fan fury it has faced with the more welcome Bowser’s Fury.
