The newly released Super Mario 3D All-Stars has already been bought by thousands of gamers. For some though, the game has been crashing when played on modded Nintendo Switch Consoles. Comprised of three classic Super Mario games, Super Mario 3D All-Stars has been released by Nintendo to celebrate 35 years of the Mario franchise. Super Mario 64, Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy have all been remastered for the Nintendo Switch.

With modified controls to adapt to the Switch hardware and higher resolutions on each of the games, this re-release will be a sure hit for the gaming giant known as Nintendo. Despite only being released, some gamers have noticed a fault with the Super Mario 3D All-Stars game. Users have stated that the game crashes a lot, specifically during the Super Mario 64 gameplay. On quitting Super Mario 64 the game appears to freeze. There have also been reports of Mario Sunshine suffering from lagging frame rates.

This has resulted in some players exclaiming that the game is just a “Lazy cash grab” from Nintendo. However, it has come to light that this is not the fault of the game itself. According to Digital Foundry's John Linneman, the problem actually lies with modded Nintendo Switch consoles. Those in possession of a hacked/corrupted game station will experience the glitches and skips previously mentioned.

For those in possession of a legitimate Nintendo Switch console (and a clean conscience), there is no evidence to show that Super Mario 3D All-Stars will react in the same way at all. Although it's likely not that long before modders come up with a way to rectify this predicament they find themselves in – especially since Super Mario 64 PC mods are already widely available online.

Once more, rest assured, there is no sign of the bug on legitimate consoles. For those with an unsullied Nintendo Switch, the re-release of these iconic and much-loved games on a modern platform offers the chance for players to share the games of their past with a new generation. Everyone's favorite plumber can confidently enter the new decade in Super Mario 3D All-Stars with all the anticipation of something new and exciting – combined with the nostalgic throwbacks of the 90s and 2000s.
