Future Gohan’s return in Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultra God Mission is bound to be a breaking point for some of Dragon Ball’s Z-Warriors. Future Gohan has one of the most tragic backstories in the series, having all his friends and family killed at a young age, only to eventually fall to the same murderous androids that tormented him his whole life. It seems as though in another timeline, this rage and pain took Gohan down a path where he became willing to do unspeakable things in order to bring his loved ones back.

Chapter 5 of Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultra God Mission leads with the full reveal of Future Gohan as one of Aeos’ Warriors in Black. It’s also revealed that each of these Warriors in Black were given an extraordinary amount of power by Dark Shenron. This version of Future Gohan from an alternate timeline finds himself face to face with Xeno Trunks in an abandoned city and wastes no time putting his old mentee on his back foot. Future Gohan’s rapid fire assault and willingness to kill is then expanded upon once Trunks begins to question his motives. The answer Future Gohan gives is truly chilling.

In essence, this evil Future Gohan reveals that his deal with Aeos is to compete and eliminate warriors from the Super Space Time Tournament in an attempt to disqualify their teams completely. This would lead to the utter annihilation of their entire timelines, down to the very last scrap of memory. In exchange for his help taking out these fighters from alternate histories, Future Gohan would then have his own timeline reaffirmed as “true history” and be given Aeos’ aid in restoring the people he lost over the years. Put simply, Future Gohan is being tasked to aid in the slaughter of an innumerable number of people across time. Aeos has fully corrupted a character who was once one of the greatest heroes in Dragon Ball history and turned him into a mass murdering pawn in her sick game to find “true history.”

Future Gohan’s task is one of the most heartbreaking missions ever given to a character in Dragon Ball history. The lone boy who wanted nothing more to make his parents happy, who watched his friends get slaughtered before his eyes, must now inflict the same kind of punishment on mirror images of his past family in order to restore his own. One of Future Gohan’s defining character traits is his struggle for power. His life has been marked by a plethora of moments where he had absolutely no power to help anyone and was only left scarred in his attempts to do good, both physically and emotionally. The one time he might just have the power to decide his own future in Super Dragon Ball Heroes is when he has to use that power to aid in the act of some of the most deadly atrocities ever seen in Dragon Ball.

The story of Future Gohan’s life is one of loss. In this version of his life, he's lost his parents, best friend, adoptive family, and even his pupil Trunks in the timeline where he hails from. In order to save those close to him, Future Gohan has decided to destroy other worlds and timelines completely. It seems as though Super Dragon Ball Heroes’ version of Future Gohan will stop at nothing to conquer the Super Space Time Tournament and bring his family back.
