Jenny Han, the author of To All The Boys I Loved Beforewill now see her other hit book trilogy The Summer I Turned Pretty adapted into an Amazon TV series. First released in 2014, To All The Boys I Loved Before became one of the most popular YA novels of the year, spending 40 weeks on The New York Times Best Seller List and raising Han's profile as a unique voice. The book achieved wider recognition in 2018 when Netflix adapted it into a film starring Lana Condor and Noah Centineo, which became a runaway hit for the streamer. With Netflix also making last year's sequel P.S. I Still Love You and the upcoming To All The Boys: Always and Forever, its biggest competitor has now set its sights on Han's other work.

Amazon Studios will adapt The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy, which Han launched in 2009 before To All The Boys became a sensation, into an eight-part series. The coming-of-age story follows Isabel "Belly" Conklin during the summers she spends with her family and the sons of her mother's best friend, focusing on Belly's relationship with the sons and her experiences of heartbreak and friendship. Though no casting announcements have been made, Haven showrunner Gabrielle Stanton will head the series, with Stanton and Han serving as executive producers.

Streaming services have fully embraced the YA genre lately, with Netflix originals like The Half of It and 13 Reasons Why making it the dominant player in the space. Amazon's adaptation of The Summer I Turned Pretty indicates the studio is making a bigger push to stake its claim in the YA landscape and capitalize on the genre's explosive popularity.
