The Foy family are competing with one another in the new hit reality show Summer Rush. If you haven't already dived into the restaurant competition show on Food Network, you may want to get to know the family first. While the Foy's have a long history of running fine food establishments, their television debut brings the internal tensions and turmoil to new heights.

The Food Network's Summer Rush has been labeled a docu-soap, but, at its core, it's a competitive reality show that follows three separate restaurant businesses owned by different members of the Foy family. The ultimate goal is to be the restaurant that earns the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time. That means we'll get to see the ins and outs of the high-stakes food industry while being entertained by awkward family dynamics and rivalries that grow throughout the season. So, let's learn a bit about this family and what makes them so fun to watch.

The three restaurants competing for first place in Summer Rush are Cate's Italian Garden, Diamond Point Grille, and The Chateau on the Lake. Each is owned by a different member of the Foy family (via Heavy). For 24-years now, Cate's Italian Garden has been creating pizzas, pastas, and other Italian cuisines. Diamond Point Grille is owned and operated by Jesse and is the newest of the dining establishments run under the Foy family name. Although Jesse runs the Grille, it wasn't always his goal to own it. While he always had a passion for restaurant gigs, he initially hoped to become a partner in the family's original restaurant, Cate's Italian Garden. The Chateau on the Lake is owned by Buddy Jr. and Jen. It was originally a private lake residence, but it was converted to a restaurant in order to continue the family legacy through fine dining.

As it turns out, Buddy Sr.'s time in the military may have served in more ways than one. While most professional chefs get their education from culinary school, Buddy Sr. learned to cook during his time in the Navy. Buddy worked as a cook on his naval ship and eventually became skilled enough in his craft to take on a top chef position. It was while he was on this ship that he came up with an all-new, original lasagna recipe. After the Navy, Buddy and his wife Cate Foy moved to Bolton Landing in New York, where they raised their three boys. While Buddy Sr. certainly vaulted his family into the restaurant business, Buddy Jr. is the reason the relatives made it onto the small screen. When Food Network began looking for stars, Buddy was the first on the list due to his years of experience in the restaurant industry. It didn't hurt that the family had a strong following on social media, which Jennifer Foy credits for their discovery. After being approached by a producer, Buddy, Jen, and the showrunners brainstormed possible ideas for the show. From there, Buddy's entrepreneurial background led to the decision to focus on all aspects of their business, and all three restaurants the family owns.

Unlike most reality television shows, Summer Rush is uniquely short, thus far consisting of only four episodes. You might even consider it a mini-series rather than a full-fledged reality show. While season two hasn't yet been confirmed, the show is receiving rave reviews, so it would be disappointing not to get an all-new season! While quarantine has certainly impacted these famous Lake George establishments and their talented family owners, they've made a strong comeback with their popular Food Network series.
