Viewers of Summer House are absolutely exhausted by the antics of Hannah Berner and her boyfriend Des Bishop, who are being shaded for their immature behavior. Hannah and Des are both comedians, but their material isn't landing, on-screen or off. Last month, for instance, Hannah got backlash for a fake maternity photoshoot. And on the April 8 episode, their endless PDA and TMI pushed both co-stars and fans over the edge.
The pair wouldn't stop talking about their sex life. Des even told Hannah's ex Luke Gulbranson that they "didn't kiss on the first date, and on the second date we f*****." That comment was in poor taste for a number of reasons. It also just added to the speculation that there was overlap in Hannah's love life between Luke and Des. If oversharing wasn't enough, the couple also hooked up all over the house while the others were away. This included, apparently, in both the bathroom and master bedroom of Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula. Unsurprisingly, Amanda, Kyle, and other castmates were repulsed. The recently engaged couple clearly think they're hilarious. But if viewers are laughing, it's at them, not with them.
On Reddit, numerous fans said they were grossed out by the jokes, oversharing, and overall lewd behavior. Multiple comments accused the couple of solely doing this for attention. One wrote, "I think they story-boarded this whole rampant sex routine. They planned it, which is sad because it wasn’t funny." Another agreed, replying, "This whole season has felt manufactured by Hannah to keep her at the center of attention." Viewers certainly didn't find it amusing, nor did it sell them on the relationship. "I always find it a little red flaggy when a couple or one member of a couple overshares details of their sex life. I immediately assume they're compensating for something."
As much as fans find Hannah to be desperate, Des might be worse. "He totally planned that out because he thought it would be a 'shocking' memeable soundbite," a Redditor theorized off his comment to Luke, adding, "Both of them are so icky and thirsty. They will do absolutely anything to be famous." Many were annoyed by how immature his sense of humor is, since the Irishman is pushing 50.
Some are convinced Des is using his 29-year-old paramour and her reality TV audience for fame. Though successful in Ireland, he was virtually unknown in the U.S. before this. As another Reddit user mentioned, "He said on some interview that he would love a Bravo show of him and Hannah doing stand up and touring, like the lack of self awareness was brutal...he'll be lucky if she is asked back."
In fact, fans are hoping Hannah doesn't return for Summer House season 6. And they're not alone. Castmates are clearly turning against the podcaster too, with Danielle Olivera recently throwing shade. Redditors even theorized that Kyle only agreed to do the spin-off Winter House if she wasn't invited. But every Bravo show needs an antagonist people love to hate. If Des stays in the picture, this show will have two of them.
