Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu likes Birds of Prey, but he still has one enduring gripe against Suicide Squad. As part of Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at last year's San Diego Comic-Con, Liu was announced to headline the upcoming MCU film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Known for being quirky and vocal on social media, he's recently talked about disliking the David Ayer film.

Released in 2016, Suicide Squad was Warner Bros.' attempt to shake things up in the comic book movie sandbox by gathering some of DC's most notable villains for an adventure of their own. Despite that being box office success, earning $746.8 million worldwide against a budget of just $175 million, it was met with divisive response from both critics and fans. Given its monetary performance, A sequel was greenlighted alongside several other spinoffs featuring Harley Quinn and Joker. However, the studio is taking a slightly different route with Birds of Prey barely acknowledging anything that happened in the ensemble flick, while James Gunn's The Suicide Squad has been dubbed as a soft reboot sequel.

Taking it to his official Twitter account, Liu expressed his opinions on Birds of Prey after seeing it. While he's with the MCU, he praised the Margot Robbie-led movie for its "strong comedy, great action and incredible performances." He then followed it up with a negative comment on Suicide Squad rooting on its production apparently blocking his apartment entrance for a week which made it difficult for him to commute to work. Check out his tweet below:

Prior to being thrust into mainstream popularity when he was cast as Shang-Chi, Liu starred on the hit Canadian sitcom Kim's Convenience which shoots in Toronto. Meanwhile, principal photography for Suicide Squad was also in the same city and began on April 2015. Obviously, the part on his tweet about having a gripe on the Ayer-directed flick is meant to be humorous. What's not, however, is his opinion on Birds of Prey as backed up by the great reviews that it got from both critics and fans alike. Unfortunately, this don't seem to translate well into box office revenue as the movie only grossed $33.25 million domestically on its opening weekend. Objectively speaking, this isn't exactly bad considering that it only had an $82 million budget (globally, it already earned $81 million). However, this is relatively low compared to other superhero releases.

Whether or not fans will see the original Suicide Squad line-up on the big screen remains to be seen. Gunn's upcoming film is only bringing back a couple of existing characters, and opting to introduce new ones to join Harley in this new adventure. In any case, if they decide to introduce a brand new Joker in the DCEU, Birds of Prey has made it fairly easy for Warner Bros.
