Warning: contains a preview for Suicide Squad Seven!
DC Comics has released a preview for Suicide Squad Seven starring Harley Quinn, a finalist in the DC Round Robin fan tournament. This comic has the chance to flip former heroes into somewhat villainous figures, while introducing several new characters. To do so, however, it has to get through Robins.
Fans have been voting to decide DC's next comic in the DC Round Robin. Fourteen potential titles have been eliminated, bringing the competition down to just Suicide Squad Seven and Robins. Voting has already opened as of May 26th and it will remain open until June 1st, 2021. As a finalist, Suicide Squad Seven eliminated Blue Beetle: Graduation Day featuring Latino hero, Jaime Reyes. However, this title is also full of Latinx characters with the potential to be part of a new six-issue miniseries.
DC Community has posted the last preview for Suicide Squad Seven. Created by Rex Ogle, Diogenes Neves, Rex Lokus, Tom Napolitano this title features a few familiar characters and some new ones. It features a completely different Suicide Squad with an insane plus one who brings the team total up to eight: Harley Quinn. Knowing the Suicide Squad's pattern, someone will be eliminated along the way, opening up the route for Harley to officially become one of a remaining seven. Check out the preview here:
Previously, the presence of Zach Zatara, El Dorado, and El Gaucho - as well as bombs being placed in orphans' necks - made it seem like this comic would twist up the usual operations for the Suicide Squad. In some ways, it still has, though the preview reveals that the line drawn is a bit thinner. Zach has never been a prominent superhero, though he has helped out the Teen Titans on occasion. It turns out, he may have a criminal record now. The same seems to be true of El Dorado, though how he came to kill his family is unknown. This is a strange turn of events considering that he has been of member of Justicia and the Super Friends. In this story he is taking up the same approach as El Diablo in the film, Suicide Squad (2016), refusing to fight.
The Church of Blood - a cult group that is most often seen fighting with the Teen Titans - has returned, but claims to be new. It is led here by a character referred to as Sister Sin by the other cultists. This group was last seen in a story within Titans Giant #5 (2019) though it was a reprinted story from a 2004 issue of Teen Titans. They were last actively present in Secret Six #19 from 2010. They're an interesting foe to pit this new team against. The latest members who could be making their comic debuts include Dulce, Acero, Silbón, and Monstruo.
El Gaucho is not a new character, but he also isn't a full member of this team like the others. He is serving in Rick Flag's typical role - as a handler to keep the group in line. Harley's role here is also out of the norm. Usually, she is a staple Suicide Squad member. While she is not leading the team, Harley is still included as a kind of mentor - albeit so far, she doesn't seem to be a very good one. To have a chance to read more about this team and learn how superheroes, almost-heroes, and villains came to be in this group with Harley Quinn, Suicide Squad Seven will have to beat Robins in DC's Round Robin.
