The Suicide Squad is packed with Easter eggs and little details, and among those is the cameo appearance of a very special character that some viewers believe could be Polka-Dot Man’s sister. The superhero genre has gained force thanks to connected universes like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC’s Extended Universe, but the latter has struggled to find the right tone for its characters. Following the underperformance of Justice League, the DCEU went through some necessary changes in its tone and style, and one of its latest projects to follow this new creative path is James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

Serving as a standalone sequel to David Ayer’s 2016 movie, The Suicide Squad saw Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) bringing back together most of the original members of Task Force X for a new mission alongside a bunch of new villains. To the surprise of everyone, Waller divided Task Force X into two teams, and the second team turned out to be the successful one. This group was formed by Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), King Shark (voiced by Sylvester Stallone), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), and Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior), and they were later joined by Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), the only survivors of the first team. However, there are two characters who quickly won over the hearts of viewers, and have been the subjects of many theories and debates, and one of those is Polka-Dot Man.

Ratcatcher 2 has been called by Gunn “the heart of the film”, but The Suicide Squad would have definitely not been the same without Polka-Dot Man. James Gunn went to the depths of DC Comics to choose the characters that would be part of The Suicide Squad, and there he found Abner Krill a.k.a. Polka-Dot Man. Although his time as part of Task Force X came to an end before Starro could be defeated, Polka-Dot Man was around long enough for viewers to learn the most important parts of his backstory so they could connect with this very peculiar character. Polka-Dot Man explained he was “an experiment gone wrong” as he and his siblings were exposed to an interdimensional virus by their mother. Now, Abner wasn’t the only survivor, and fans believe his sister had a cameo appearance in The Suicide Squad.

Featured The Suicide Squad Kaleidoscope

A fan theory posted on Reddit connects Polka-Dot Man and the cameo appearance of Kaleidoscope in the first act of the movie. The author explains that Kaleidoscope could be one of Polka-Dot Man’s siblings, one of the few who survived the experiments. Polka-Dot Man is affected by the virus from the inside, with the dots growing and forcing him to expel them at least twice a day, though he can also use them as weapons. The theory suggests that the experiments weren’t the same for all of the Krill children, and so Kaleidoscope could be the result of the virus taking over her on the outside, thus giving her that colorful appearance. The author goes on to add that Polka-Dot Man and Kaleidoscope teamed up to kill their mother, which is how they ended up at Belle Reve, but they dealt with it differently: Polka-Dot Man became haunted by his condition and the memory of his mother, while Kaleidoscope embraced her unique look and sees it as “a less disastrous quirk”.

This obviously goes against both characters' origins and stories in the comics, but these connected universes have taken a lot of liberties when adapting characters, and The Suicide Squad was no exception. If the theory is true, and with Polka-Dot Man now gone, Kaleidoscope could have a bigger presence in future DCEU movies, but until James Gunn confirms or denies it, fans can debate over whether it fits that Polka-Dot Man and Kaleidoscope are siblings or it’s just a fun idea.
