James Gunn knows what The Suicide Squad will be rated, but he isn't saying. Gunn was brought on to the DC film after being fired from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (though he's since been rehired). While Gunn's film isn't considered a direct sequel to the 2016 Suicide Squad, it will feature some of the same characters, like Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Gunn has kept the plot details tightly under wraps, though he has hinted that not everyone in The Suicide Squad's massive cast will live through the whole film.

The Suicide Squad recently wrapped production, and since then, fans have been eager for more information on the film. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Gunn has been working on editing The Suicide Squad from home to ensure it will still make its August 2021 release date. One thing fans are especially curious about is the film's rating, as early reports suggested it could be R-rated. The most recent DCEU film, Birds of Prey (which starred Robbie's Harley), was rated R, and last year's Joker was the same despite not taking place within the DCEU.

During his latest Q&A session on Twitter, Gunn was asked if he knows what The Suicide Squad's rating is. Gunn didn't give much away, but he did confirm that he does know and "can't yet say," capping it off with a smiley emoji. Gunn's tweet is down below:

While self-quarantining at home, Gunn has provided fans with several opportunities for entertainment through his social media, whether it's by sharing new tidbits about his films or updating everyone on his toilet paper situation. Now that The Suicide Squad has completed production, Gunn will next look to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It's not clear when the MCU-set film is expected to begin production, though any plans could be impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.

Considering the antics many are expecting the titular group to get up to in The Suicide Squad, an R-rating could be likely. It would give Gunn the opportunity to get a bit more inventive with the language and violence, and it would certainly be a change from the 2016 film. R-rated superhero films have been very well-received in recent years, from Deadpool and Logan to Joker and Birds of Prey. The biggest downside to giving The Suicide Squad an R rating would be eliminating the chance for younger viewers, but that might not be Gunn's concern. For now, fans will have to wait to find out which rating The Suicide Squad has earned.
