There is little doubt that Suicide Squad is aiming to be the movie of the summer. Only earlier this week its MPAA rating of PG-13 was locked in, securing the film its widest audience possible (considering the material). The film's full line of tie-in merchandise was also just officially announced, and Warner Bros. has been barraging us with those captivating Suicide Squad trailers since last year's San Diego Comic-Con - a full year before the film's August 2016 release!
Recalling the Skwad's surprise appearance at Comic-Con, where it practically stole the limelight from all of Warner Bros.' other presenting films - including Batman V Superman - it should come as no surprise to hear they'll be back again this year. In fact, the word (via THR) is Warner Bros. is planning for Suicide Squad to have a "major presence" at the largest pop culture convention in the country, which is expected to include appearances from the cast and a recreation of Belle Reve Penitentiary (albeit a family friendly recreation) at the Hard Rock Hotel in the San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. Also on the docket is Harley's Tattoo Parlor - the same attraction that debuted at SXSW - as well as an opportunity for fans to fight alongside Task Force X in a scene from the film thanks to a virtual reality experience.
As for who will appear on stage during WB's Hall H presentation, those details are still under wraps. But again, the entire cast and writer/director David Ayers showed up unannounced last year, so expecting a repeat performance at this Comic-Con wouldn't be out of the question. Those of the cast in attendance at Comic-Con will also hold a signing at the DC Entertainment booth on the convention floor and tape a segment for the Saturday, July 23rd episode of Conan O'Brien's TBS show, which like last year, will broadcast from San Diego during the convention.
But that's not all! In addition to hosting a variety of Suicide Squad activities, WB and DC Entertainment announced Squad Up!, a contest asking fans to submit their best cosplay of any Task Force X member (and the Joker, because of course) for a chance at winning an all expenses paid trip to San Diego Comic-Con. Submissions are due by June 29th and fans can submit a cosplay for as many characters as they can make a costume. For further details head on over to the contest's official page. (My suggestion would be to pick a lesser known character, because you know practically everyone already has a Harley Quinn costume lined up.)
Suicide Squad will arrive on August 5, 2016, followed by Wonder Woman on June 2, 2017; Justice League Part One on November 17, 2017; The Flash on March 16, 2018; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; an untitled DC Film on October 5, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League Part Two on June 14, 2019; an untitled DC film on November 1, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020.
