New behind-the-scenes images from The Suicide Squad shows Calendar Man (Sean Gunn) hanging out with Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian). A soft reboot of David Ayer’s 2016 film, Suicide Squad, James Gunn’s latest foray into superhero filmmaking recently debuted in theaters and on HBO Max. Thus far, The Suicide Squad has received widespread praise from audiences and critics alike.

A major element of Task Force X is the notion that Amanda Waller (portrayed in the film by Viola Davis) enlists lower-tier DC villains to go on suicide missions in exchange for time removed from their sentences. In The Suicide Squad, Polka-Dot Man is conscripted for the mission to Corto Maltese alongside Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and others. During Polka-Dot Man’s less-than-glorious introduction to the team, holiday-obsessed Batman villain Calendar Man crosses his path and mocks the colorful villain as someone fit to entertain at a kid’s birthday and lobs some obscenities his way for good measure.

Despite all the animosity between Calendar Man and Polka-Dot Man in the film, it now looks like their real-life counterparts got to hang out on The Suicide Squad’s set between takes. Director James Gunn has taken to Instagram to post behind-the-scenes images of Sean Gunn and David Dastmalchian spending time together while filming the movie. Check out the image below:

Sean Gunn’s brief cameo as Calendar Man is not his only appearance in The Suicide Squad, however. In fact, the actor also performed the motion capture for Weasel, the child-killing, non-swimming member of Task Force X whose screen time gets cut short at the beginning of the movie. This dual role seems to be a pattern for the Gunn brothers, as Sean Gunn similarly portrays Kraglin and does the motion capture for Rocket Raccoon in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, which are also directed by James Gunn.

With The Suicide Squad now out, fans are left to wonder if there could be a future for Sean Gunn’s Calendar Man in the DCEU, or if he’s simply an Easter egg for fans to catch. With James Gunn recently revealing that he’s interested in doing another DC villain movie, there’s always the possibility of Calendar Man returning as a new member of Task Force X, or even making his way to Gotham to face off against Batman. The Suicide Squad is currently in theaters and available to stream on HBO Max.
