As Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment begin marketing the home video release for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice so to are they beginning to push their next project on all fronts. Suicide Squad is expected to have a big presence this summer as rival comic book films finish their theatrical runs on the lead-up to San Diego Comic-Con where we hope to see DC's band of misfits and director David Ayer put on another exciting presentation.
But before we get there, it's time to look at where the money may really be coming from: licensing and tie-in merchandise... because the Suicide Squad are taking over the Official DC Shop beginning NOW.
After getting our first look at Suicide Squad LEGO sets earlier this week and some action figures beforehand, WB Consumer Products Global announced today the full line-up of official merchandise for the August 5th release of Suicide Squad. The product line matches the color style of the movie's trailers and posters so far with an obvious focus on the most buzzworthy fan-fave characters audiences are already becoming attached to - Harley Quinn and the Joker.
Featuring an ensemble cast of never-before-seen characters on the big screen, supporting players including Killer Croc, Katana, and Boomerang each get their own collectibles and other merch too. Below's a gallery of just some of the newly unveiled Suicide Squad products with even more to be announced in the future. The full line-up - which also includes action figures, clothing, mugs, blankets, bags, cosplay items, etc. - with details can be seen at www.ShopDCEntertainment.com/SuicideSquad.
In celebration of the August 5th release of Warner Bros. Pictures’ action-adventure Suicide Squad, the most iconic Super-Villains of the DC Universe take over ShopDCEntertainment.com! The Official Shop of DC is now packing a criminal lineup of collectibles for every type of villain. Armed to the teeth with Warner Bros. Consumer Products licensed hoodies, phone cases, figures, statues, Funko Vinyl Pop! figures, mugs, pillows, and over 60 shirts featuring The Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Katana and more—this store is your first stop for all DC mayhem!
The comparisons to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy are even more undeniable now, with its outlandish criminals coming together to battle something even worse (in PG-13 fashion) while now also embracing a similarly colored and styled merch line-up. And the marketing has leaned into that heavily with their song selections and aesthetic of the latest promo materials - which fit the reports of reshoots reportedly adding more of a colorful and comedic tone to the film's content. And that's a good thing when it comes to the merchandise which may prove to be even more popular than what came out of BvS. Harley Quinn, after all, is a top-selling series for DC Comics behind only Batman (who's also appearing in Suicide Squad).
Suicide Squad is off to a strong start with positive reception to its trailers, test screenings, and character line-up, and there's already an overwhelming interest in cosplay for characters like Harley Quinn who's being rumored to lead another spinoff movie for the DCEU. So to are multiple Suicide Squad followups rumored to be in early development.
