The Batman: Arkham series lets players terrorize Gotham's criminals as the Dark Knight, but Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will effectively reverse this dynamic. Rocksteady's upcoming co-op shooter will give Task Force X the impossible mission of assassinating Justice League heroes like Superman, Flash and Green Lantern. While these are truly intimidating foes, another recently revealed DC hero promises to be the Squad's scariest opponent of all.

The thought of the Suicide Squad killing one Justice League member seems ridiculous, but Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will feature at least five. The game's first reveal trailer saw Task Force X square up against a corrupted Superman, who saved a helicopter pilot only to vaporize him with heat vision. Subsequent Suicide Squad: KTJL trailers have put the spotlight on Flash, whose incredible superspeed makes him an impossible target for the Squad to hit. The game will also feature Green Lantern and Wonder Woman, with the Amazonian heroine seemingly uncorrupted by Brainiac's influence, and now the fifth member of the Arkhamverse Justice League has been revealed.

As revealed in a new trailer during The Game Awards 2022, Batman returns in Suicide Squad: KTJL and is once again voiced by the late, great Kevin Conroy. The trailer sees the Squad drag an unconscious Flash into a warehouse, only to be confronted by a corrupted and seemingly murderous Batman. The Dark Knight appeared to die at the end of Batman: Arkham Knight, though the game's full ending hints at his survival and ongoing vigilante activities. While the Caped Crusader would make an excellent ally for the Suicide Squad as they attempt to stop the ruthless Justice League, it appears that Suicide Squad: KTJL will make him an enemy instead.

With Batman appearing as a villain, it seems likely that Suicide Squad: KTJL will flip Batman: Arkham's gameplay by turning the hunter into the hunted. Rocksteady's beloved trilogy put players in full control of the Caped Crusader, who could use an arsenal of gadgets and stealth moves to torment enemies while slowly picking them off from the shadows. Suicide Squad: KTJL can put players on the receiving end of this torment, with Batman stalking Task Force X from the shadows and setting up deadly traps. Batman is incapable of surviving direct gunfire, so a third-person shooter boss fight against him will need to be psychological rather than physical.

By bringing Batman back alongside his Justice League comrades, the plot of Suicide Squad: KTJL can answer Batman: Arkham questions that Rocksteady's previous trilogy left unresolved. The presence of Kevin Conroy's Dark Knight as a corrupted antagonist is also sure to flip the Arkham trilogy's gameplay on its head. Rather than taking down thugs in Freeflow Combat or picking off armed foes with Invisible Predator moves, players will now need to overcome these tactics to take down the Caped Crusader. While his full role in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League remains a mystery, it's hard to imagine a more terrifying video game boss than the Batman: Arkham version of the Dark Knight.
