Warning: SPOILERS for The Suicide Squad.

In James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, Sylvester Stallone's King Shark is the breakout member of Amanda Waller's new Task Force X, serving as a nearly impenetrable (and lovable) powerhouse. Throughout all of the firefights and dangers the Suicide Squad faces, King Shark  - also known as Nanaue - seems to be able to shrug off bullets, explosions, falling from great heights, and buildings likewise falling on him with little or no effect. How strong is King Shark, and how did he not die on multiple occasions in The Suicide Squad?

In the new DCEU film, Amanda Waller has created a brand new Task Force X consisting of Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Polka-Dot Man, Ratcatcher II, and the large and lovable King Shark (who's not the most brilliant mind in any given room). Regardless, Nanaue proves himself to be a valuable asset to the team as soon as he learns to distinguish friends from food, acting as a ravenous walking tank able to take on some incredible beatings. Bullets just bounced off of him, explosions didn't have much of an effect either, nor did falling from quite a few stories when the Squad blew up the Jotunheim lab on the island nation of Corto Maltese. In the final battle with the giant cosmic starfish Starro, Nanaue was thrown around like a rag-doll by the massive villain and yet walked away from an entire building falling on top of him. In fact, the only real lasting damage he seemed to have taken were from the strange Clyrax jellyfish from the lab that he tried to befriend, only for them to sink their teeth into King Shark's hard skin once released from their tank.

The source of King Shark's near-invincibility and strength likely comes from his origins as a literal demigod. Nanaue is actually the son of a shark god, the first King of all Sharks from Hawaiian myth and legend. Not only does this help explain his great strength, but it also tracks with his past exploits in the pages of DC Comics. Before being recruited to Task Force X by Amanda Waller, Nanaue had been a frequent foe to Conner Kent's Superboy, which paints a better picture of how strong King Shark truly is seeing as how he can apparently go toe to toe with Kryptonians.

King Shark The Suicide Squad

All things considered, King Shark is definitely the most powerful and strongest member of the Suicide Squad. However, Nanaue's power is hilariously undercut by his lack of intellect and instinctual nature to feed (seeing everything as "nom-noms"). That being said, it does allow the team's leader Bloodsport (Idris Elba) to better guide and direct King Shark towards foes, as seen in the battle with Starro when he told King Shark that the cosmic starfish was "nom-nom", resulting in Nanue immediately jumping onto Starro and ripping chunks off of the massive being.

While it's unclear what's next for Nanaue's King Shark, he's already garnered quite the large fan-following, and it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility to imagine Nanaue being featured in a potential sequel for The Suicide Squad. That being said, while Bloodsport did manage to secure the team's freedom by blackmailing Waller, it appeared as though the surviving squadmates will be sticking together for the long run all the same. Being the strongest member of the team, The Suicide Squad would certainly be at a major disadvantage if they didn't have King Shark backing them up going forward.
