Suicide Squad is arguably the most hotly anticipated new superhero film based on characters lifted from the pages of DC Comics -- save for Zack Snyder's equally anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While Snyder's film will be receiving an earlier release date set for March 2016, the film -- which will be written and directed by David Ayer -- is just as much on the forefront of every comic book fan's mind of late.
In the wake of the first feature length trailer for Ayer's take on the anti-hero vigilante team, all eyes have been on Jared Leto's infamous Joker character. Word from the set has been nothing short of hyperbolic when it comes to discussing Leto's ability, with co-stars Will Smith and Margot Robbie citing the actor's ability to go "all in" on a performance that will be sure to leave viewers "petrified" -- a sentiment which another featured star from the film is reportedly willing to further attest to.
According to a recent interview with HHB Media (see above), Corina Calderon, whose exact role in the new film is still being kept under wraps, found Leto to be a more than stunning addition to the film's all-star cast, leaving the young actress in a state of shock and awe. In conversation, Calderon remarked she was "absolutely mesmerized" and that watching Leto was "an amazing lesson" that gave her a "whole new freedom as an actress."
With so many of his fellow cast members praising his turn as Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime, Leto's turn as the Joker will be something to discuss come the film's August 2016 theatrical release, to say the least. Granted, everything said so far about the performance in question has come from within the realm of the production itself, so all the talk about Ayer's singular conception of the Joker may be nothing more than contractually obligated screen actors talking nice about their latest project.
On the other hand, the fact that more than one performer has come forward singing Leto's praises certainly speaks to something, and based on the footage released so far such talk may be right. Until next summer, fans will have to wait patiently to see where Ayer and Leto will take the infamous Batman villain next, though things are looking and sounding good of late.
