Fan artist Boss Logic offers up his take on what Idris Elba could look like as Deadshot in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. Released in 2016, the original Suicide Squad was maligned by critics but nevertheless grossed $746 million at the worldwide box office. Among other things, the film made a pop culture sensation out of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, who will now head up her own female-centric DC movie Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

As for Suicide Squad itself, DC plans on going forward with a sequel, with former Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn taking over for David Ayer. Plans for the movie are still being kept largely under wraps, but it's been reported that Robbie will return as Harley Quinn. It's seemingly less likely that Jared Leto would return as the Joker, especially now that DC has launched a new Joker origin film starring Joaquin Phoenix. What is certain is that Will Smith will not return as Deadshot, as the actor will not be available due to other commitments. It's now being reported that Idris Elba is in talks to take over as Deadshot as Gunn's The Suicide Squad heads toward a reported September production start.

With Elba possibly poised to step in for Smith as Deadshot, fan artist Boss Logic has wasted no time creating an image depicting the Luther star as the Suicide Squad character. The prolific Boss Logic was able to create a pretty convincing Deadshot using an image of Elba as Stacker Pentecost in Pacific Rim as his starting point. See the image below:

An old school DC character from way back in the '50s, Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot is a deadly assassin with a sniper rifle who never misses a shot. The character as played by Smith was central to the action in the first Suicide Squad movie, and will undoubtedly also figure heavily in the follow up. It remains to be seen what other Suicide Squad characters will be brought back for the sequel, and what new characters might be introduced, but there's no question Gunn will have a lot of interesting plans for the film. Gunn was of course fired by Disney as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after controversial old tweets of his were dug up and splashed across the internet.

Gunn may be out as one of the creative forces behind the MCU, but he's found a soft landing spot with DC, and many fans are excited about what he brings to the table. With the potential addition of Elba as Deadshot, the cast of The Suicide Squad is also coming together in a way that should generate a lot of excitement.
