It looks like Rocksteady is indeed unveiling its new Suicide Squad game at DC’s FanDome event this month. Rumors of a new game by the famed Batman Arkham series developer was already circulating as far back as a couple of months ago, along with hints that the hypothetical title’s plot would pit the Squad against the Justice League.

Officially labeled "Task Force X" by the government, the Suicide Squad is a top-secret Black-Ops unit under the command of Amanda Waller, consisting of mid-tier supervillains like Harley Quinn and King Shark as they perform high-risk military operations in exchange for amnesty for their past crimes. The constantly changing team has been featured in many different mediums, such as a short-lived run on Arrow during its second and third seasons, a couple of DC Animated Original Movies and even the 2016 live-action film - which, despite its ill reception from both fans and critics and rumored meddling from the higher-ups at Warner Bros, is set to get a sequel next year in the form of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Now, it seems the rag-tag crew of Task Force X is finally stepping into the realm of video games, nearly a decade after such a title was teased at the end of WB Montreal’s Batman Arkham Origins.

Yesterday morning, Rocksteady posted a teaser image of its upcoming Suicide Squad game to Twitter, along with a message revealing that the team will reveal the game in full at the DC FanDome event on August 22, 2020. The image in question depicts a silhouette of Superman with a Suicide Squad logo on his face as if it were a target.

Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad isn’t the only new video game being promised at the DC FanDome event this month, as rumor has it that the aforementioned WB Montreal’s new Batman title, a supposed reboot that will see the Dark Knight take on the secret society known as the Court Of Owls, will be revealed as well. Aside from the games, August 22’s showcase promises to be a blockbuster event for DC fans, featuring new looks at everything from the hit HBO Max series Doom Patrol to Robert Pattinson’s upcoming turn as the Caped Crusader in The Batman.

Rocksteady has always delivered a high-quality take on the DC Comics lore in its critically-acclaimed Batman Arkham series, so a chance to get that same level of polish with characters like Harley Quinn and Deadshot is certainly an exciting prospect for fans. The image depicting Superman is also an intriguing prospect, as it implies that the Suicide Squad is hunting him and other members of the Justice League as was previously hinted at in the game's earlier rumors. Have Earth’s heroes run afoul of Amanda Waller in some way? Is this like Injustice, where they have turned to the dark side and the only ones who can stop them are the rogues of Task Force X? Fans may get a clue during the Suicide Squad game’s unveiling as part of the DC FanDome event on August 22.
