According to David Ayer, his Suicide Squad cut could still be released one day. Zack Snyder's original Justice League cut was released on HBO Max after a passionate campaign from fans. However, there is still another DCU movie that fans are trying to get Warner Bros. Discovery to release - Ayer's original Suicide Squad cut from 2016. Despite a similar movement, both the previous and current Warner Bros. regimes have made it clear that they don't have any plans to release the Ayer cut anytime soon.James Gunn, who was recently appointed the co-CEO of DC Studios, addressed the fan campaigns, including the movement to get Ayer's Suicide Squad cut released. While appreciating everyone's voices, the DC Studios head made it evident that the DCU is all about moving forward. While Ayer has responded professionally about it, a fan recently inquired how the director has a good relationship with Gunn despite not relating his original cut. Ayer made a statement that Gunn has always been good and respectful to him as a way to shut down some people's attempts at pitting the two filmmakers against each other. However, Ayer also clarified that even though DC Studios has no immediate plans to release his Suicide Squad cut, he wants it to be seen, stating "I believe there's a real shot at" maybe one day still getting it shared with the world, saying the following:RELATED: Will The Ayer Cut Be Released? When Could The Suicide Squad Ayer Cut Release?

Suicide Squad Joker David Ayer Cut

DC Studios launched officially on November 1, as Gunn and his co-CEO Peter Safran, who will oversee the business aspect of the division, have barely been in their roles for a month. Gunn and Safran are still getting settled in with DC Studios and beginning to map out their big 10-year plan for the DCU, as they are now in charge of television, movies, and animation for Warner Bros. Discovery's DC brand. However, just because Ayer's Suicide Squad isn't part of those plans currently doesn't mean that won't change in the future.

Although Gunn is one of the co-leaders for DC Studios, no movement has been made on The Suicide Squad, which he wrote and directed in 2021. If Gunn isn't even focusing on the franchise that he began working on when entering the DCU, it's perfectly understandable why the co-CEO wouldn't be focusing on Ayer's original cut. However, once they have their road map planned out and have it fully greenlit by Warner Bros. Discovery, it's not impossible that Ayer's Suicide Squad cut gets distributed to the world within the next 4-5 years if it makes sense as part of their plan. It could also be a matter of waiting with putting it out once HBO Max and Discovery Plus have been fully combined, which is happening in spring 2023.

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios are all about focusing on the future of the DCU, meaning their top priority is on finding ways to branch out their interconnected franchise. If even Ayer is stressing that he doesn't have a problem with his Suicide Squad cut not being released any time soon, hence his "It won't be tomorrow" comment, then it's worth taking that into account. Hopefully, if it can happen organically and Ayer's Suicide Squad cut will finally get to be shown to the world in the coming years as DC Studios continues to map out its future.
