One of the stars of DC’s The Suicide Squad has created a miniature Polka-Dot Man costume for the stray cat he adopted. The film, which is directed by Guardians of the Galaxy’s James Gunn and stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, and Daniela Melchior, among others, premiered in U.S. theaters on August 5 to widespread critical acclaim. The Suicide Squad features a number of returning fan-favorite characters, as well as lesser-known faces like that of Polka-Dot Man.

Polka-Dot Man was first introduced by DC Comics in the early 1960s, where he had a brief run as a minor Batman villain. Real name Abner Krill, the character conducted a series of robberies using his polka-dotted suit, the dots of which could be thrown out to summon all sorts of gadgets and weapons. Because of Polka-Dot Man’s ridiculous nature, he hasn’t exactly been a common face in the DC universe over the past few decades. But now, thanks to The Suicide Squad, Polka-Dot Man has been thrown back into the spotlight.

Star David Dastmalchian brings Polka-Dot Man marvelously to life in The Suicide Squad, and a recent Instagram post shows that the character has remained near and dear to his heart post-release. The actor recently shared a series of adorable pictures of his adopted cat, Abner Bubblegum Polka Dot Cat, or Bubblegum for short, wearing a cute, cat-sized version of his own Polka-Dot Man suit. Dastmalchain used the opportunity to promote animal adoption. Check out the Polka-Dot Cat pictures below.

Though Polka-Dot Man was originally envisioned as a minor villain, The Suicide Squad effectively turns him into a pretty compelling and sympathetic character, largely thanks to Dastmalchian’s performance, which is both hilarious and occasionally poignant. Polka-Dot Man seems like exactly the kind of character who would do well with a feline companion in his life, so it’s fun to see that the actor himself actually brought one home from his work on the film. And of course, Bubblegum looks perfect in the tiny Polka-Dot suit.

A DCEU return from Polka-Dot Man might be a longshot for several reasons, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. The Cena-led Peacemaker spinoff series is coming soon to HBO Max, taking place before the events of The Suicide Squad, and it or other projects like it could present opportunities for smaller characters like Polka-Dot Man to return. Regardless, The Suicide Squad provides a perfect arc for the forgotten DC villain, and it’s nice to see that the character has found fans in the cat world as well as the human one.
