Director James Gunn shared behind-the-scenes images from The Suicide Squad revealing detailed easter eggs decorating Peacemaker's cell walls. The Suicide Squad follows a rag-tag team of incarcerated superhumans enlisted into Task Force X and charged to infiltrate the Anti-American island of Corto Maltese and destroy their evil plans, titled "Project Starfish."

Peacemaker, played by John Cena, is a patriotic and determined superhuman who is on a relentless pursuit for peace at any cost. Unfortunately, he also has a very warped sense of perspective, committing more atrocities than he prevents. The film also stars Margot Robbie, reprising her role as Harley Quinn from Birds of Prey (2020), Idris Elba as Bloodsport, and Sylvester Stallone as the voice of King Shar. The Suicide Squad was DC's second attempt at a Suicide Squad film, after previously releasing David Ayer's Suicide Squad in 2016, and received substantially better all-round reception.

To celebrate the upcoming home release of The Suicide Squad, Gunn shared detailed images from the film's set, including many of the elaborate artistic efforts the art department created. The photos include hand-written letters and pictures from thankful fans and infatuated admirers that decorated the Peacemaker's cell at the Belle Reve maximum security metahuman prison. Gunn expresses his surprise and admiration for the effort that the crew put into the film's set design, despite telling them that the work would only be featured briefly on-screen, and wished to pay credit for their hard work by bringing people's attention to them.

The letters comprise fan mail sent in by faithful Peacemaker fans who thank him for his work and express their devoted love for him. There is also a range of hand-drawn portraits of the anti-hero. There are even letters of a flirtatious nature from someone named "Lilliana the Peacelover," which alludes to the possible inclusion of erotic photos, showing that, even in the finest of details, everybody in the crew was committed to the film's outrageous sense of humor and R-rating.

James Gunn and John Cena are returning for a television series for HBO Max, titled simply Peacemaker, which is set to explore the origins of the titular character. This news may come as a surprise to anybody who didn't stay right to the end of The Suicide Squad as it is revealed in a mid-credit sequence that the mercenary is still alive and under the supervision of Waller's team. It can be expected that the Peacemaker series will delve deeper into the character's warped psychology, perhaps explaining why it is that he feels so incensed to bring peace to the world and why he goes about it so violently. With the return of Gunn and Cena, the series will share The Suicide Squad's keen sense of humor and hectic nature. Peacemaker is set to release on 13th January 2022.
