James Gunn's The Suicide Squad releases a new TV spot featuring new footage of Starro, Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) and Mongal (Mayling Ng). The 2016 Suicide Squad movie was poorly received by critics and fans alike. Despite this, the film still managed to gross over $746 million worldwide. The director, David Ayer, was originally tasked with directing a sequel, however, he declined to do so in favor of developing a new Gotham City Sirens movie. In September 2017, Warner Bros. announced Guardians of the Galaxy director, Gunn, who will be bringing to life this semi-sequel/reboot of the property.

This new Suicide Squad film will introduce a somewhat different Task Force X as they embark on another dangerous mission that could risk their lives. A few characters from the original film will be returning, including Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and Captain Boomerang. However, a lot of new characters will be introduced including Peacemaker (John Cena), King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), and Bloodsport (Idris Elba). Viola Davis will also be returning as Amanda Waller, the architect behind the Suicide Squad.

Little was really known about the complete story of the film or who the villain was going to be. However, it was revealed in the first The Suicide Squad trailer that the new Task Force X would be facing Starro, a popular supervillain from the comics who just happens to be an alien life form who looks like a starfish. Now, in a new TV Spot shared by Gunn on social media, we get a brand new shot of Starro in what appears to be a containment room of some kind, as Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior) looks through a round window. Other new footage includes shots of Captain Boomerang and Mongal in action.

In the DC comics, Starro has long played a significant role. He was the very first villain the Justice League ever faced. Although Starro looks like a giant starfish, he is actually highly intelligent - and not from Earth. Starro belongs to an ancient race of aliens called the Star Conquerors. Their plans included using their mind control powers to conquer planets. In the comics, Starro has been able to conquer over nine galaxies by himself.

It is unsure if Starro's plans for the new Suicide Squad will involve trying to conquer the Earth with his mind control abilities but that is a possibility. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how such a unique and non-humanoid character will be brought to life. Gunn is known for bringing a touch of camp and humor to his movies and there is arguably nothing more camp than fighting a giant starfish. However, if anyone can make that work in a film medium it would be Gunn in The Suicide Squad.
