James Gunn's The Suicide Squad reportedly casts Peter Capaldi, and may also be looking to add Pete Davidson. Despite receiving widely negative reviews from critics, the original Suicide Squad was a massive box office hit in 2016. Unsurprisingly, Warner Bros. is putting the pieces together for a followup, which is written and directed by James Gunn. Gunn, of course, took the job after Disney fired him from Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Gunn has since returned to Marvel, but he's first working on The Suicide Squad, ahead of its August 2021 release date.

In essence, The Suicide Squad is something of a soft reboot, bringing back fan-favorite cast members from the first film (Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney) while also introducing a plethora of new characters. Fresh faces to the Suicide Squad cast include big names like Idris Elba, Nathan Fillian, and Taika Waititi (among others). Now, with production set to begin in the near future, a couple more cast members are joining.

According to Deadline, former Doctor Who star Capaldi is now onboard. SNL's Davidson is said to be in talks for a small role, which will be a cameo he fits into his schedule during the latest SNL season. Character details for both are unknown.

Peter Capaldi as The Doctor and a Cyberman in Doctor Who

Capaldi is best known for his tenure as the 12th Doctor on Doctor Who, but he has a number of film and TV credits to his name. Over the course of his career, he's been in everything from serious dramas (The Fifth Estate) to family movies like Christopher Robin and the Paddington series. Capaldi's a versatile performer and should be a strong fit for whatever Gunn has in mind. This'll mark is first foray into comic book films, though Capaldi's no stranger to properties with large followings (he felt the immense pressure of being the lead on Doctor Who). As for Davidson, his SNL background would indicate his cameo could be comedic in nature, but it's possible Gunn's got a surprise up his sleeve. Either way, it doesn't appear Davidson's character will have much to do if he'd be able to film the role between SNL episodes.

Since production is set to begin later this month, hopefully there will be more information revealed soon. All of the recent Suicide Squad cast additions are unknown roles, and fans are eager to learn what the team roster is this time out. Perhaps Gunn and company will officially reveal that once the cameras start rolling, but until then, it'll be interesting to see if any more big names join The Suicide Squad before everything's set.
