The Suicide Squad director, James Gun, had a hilarious response to a Peacemaker Christmas ornament. David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was released in 2016 and made over $740 million at the box office, but unfortunately, the film was panned by critics and audiences. Gunn is now leading the charge for The Suicide Squad, a soft sequel/reboot to the 2016 film, and The Suicide Squad's trailers have already shown it possesses the director’s trademark humor with a rated-R edge. Also, the film will introduce a different Task Force X to the 2016 installment.

Alongside the returning Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), The Suicide Squad’s Task Force X will introduce new characters like John Cena’s Peacemaker, Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, and Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark. The film will see the team embark on a dangerous mission to Corto Maltese. Peacemaker is one of the characters that has garnered a lot of attention, as the “douchey Captain America” is already getting his spinoff series on HBO Max, one that will explore the character’s origins. Gunn and Cena have also embraced the absurdity of the character while entertaining audiences by discussing Cena’s peculiar obsession with the Peacemaker costume. Now, The Suicide Squad director has shared his amusing thoughts on a new ornament based on the character that will kill for peace.

A fan tweeted Gunn and brought his attention to an interesting piece of The Suicide Squad merchandise that will be available at Hallmark, a Peacemaker Christmas ornament. Gunn hilariously responded by writing: “Nothing says Christmas like a guy who kills for the sake of peace,” hilariously acknowledging the odd mix of Peacemaker’s violent tendencies and the festive season. Full tweet can be seen below:

Gunn poking fun at the fact Peacemaker of all characters is a Christmas ornament is certainly funny, but the Peacemaker merchandise is perhaps another sign of the confidence Warner Bros. has in Cena’s character being a standout in the DC ensemble film. Currently, it’s the only merchandise the film has on Hallmark’s site. The ornament will be available in October, post-The Suicide Squad’s August release, and in time for Christmas preparations and the Peacemaker series’ January 2022 release. Also, merchandise such as this Christmas ornament will evidently allow Gunn to continue promoting his The Suicide Squad character in an entertaining manner.

The Suicide Squad director revealed he cast Cena as Peacemaker because he “loved him” in the comedy Trainwreck, and it appears the former WWE Champion has continued to win over the director as the pair are currently filming the Peacemaker series. First off, Gunn and co. will be hoping The Suicide Squad will succeed and leave audiences wanting more, such as Peacemaker’s spin-off series and perhaps, the character’s ornament to bring “peace” this Christmas.
