Firefly alum Nathan Fillion is keeping his role in The Suicide Squad a secret, though he did cross one DC character off the list of people he could be playing. The Suicide Squad will serve as a soft reboot to the franchise after 2016's Suicide Squad left a bad taste in fans' mouths. This time around, James Gunn is directing the DCEU-set film, and though fans have been speculating about the film's plot and characters for months, he's remained coy about any real details

Only a handful of characters from the original Suicide Squad are making the jump to this next one, with Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis all reprising their roles. The Suicide Squad's full cast list contains a whopping 24 names, including Fillion, Idris Elba (recently seen on set with Robbie), John Cena, Taika Waititi, Pete Davidson, Alice Braga, and Sean Gunn. Thanks to various set photos that have emerged, fans have tried to guess who each actor is playing based on their costumes, but few have been confirmed officially.

Following Fillion's casting, fans began to speculate if he could be playing a DC comics character known as Arm-Fall-Off-Boy, who has the ability to remove his limbs. While speaking to SiriusXM, Fillion was asked about the rumors regarding him potentially playing Arm-Fall-Off-Boy. In response, he said, "That was never a comic I really dived into, so I didn't really know who that was that they were talking about. And it certainly wasn't the name I was reading in the script."

Fillion then went on to joke about how he prefers people asking him about rumors, because "I start to sweat a little bit when people start getting close to what I would consider something that's actually accurate. I'm the worst liar." So much of The Suicide Squad has been kept a secret, though one thing that seems likely is that some characters in the film's large cast will die. When it comes to who the characters actually are, Gunn previously stated it will likely be a long while before any new characters are confirmed. In the meantime, fans can continue to speculate. For example, with Arm-Fall-Off-Boy off the table, there is a chance Fillion is playing Blackguard, based off the costume glimpsed in set photos.

The Suicide Squad isn't set to arrive until August 6, 2021, leaving plenty of time for more information to be announced. Gunn doesn't seem willing to reveal any concrete plot or character details while production is still ongoing, so perhaps he'll share more once filming is complete. There is also a chance this summer's San Diego Comic-Con will bring more details to light. Until then, all fans can do is continue to theorize, though at least they can now leave Arm-Fall-Off-Boy off their team roster.
