Sylvester Stallone has joined The Suicide Squad in a mystery role. Stallone has had an incredibly successful acting career as an actor and director, with Rocky in 1976 really launching him into stardom. Stallone starred in several action flicks throughout the '80s and '90s, but has still managed to remain in the spotlight by appearing in new installments of the Rocky and Rambo franchises.

The Suicide Squad is a soft reboot over a direct sequel, so only certain characters are returning from David Ayer's 2016 film. Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney are returning as Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang, as are Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg). While these are the only known returning cast members, Gunn has built anticipation for his film by including a number of lesser-known DC villains with big stars attached. Nathan Fillion (T.D.K.), Idris Elba (Bloodsport), and John Cena (Peacemaker) are some of the stand out examples, but the team in The Suicide Squad has grown substantially from the first movie, with over a dozen supervillains making their big-screen debut. Now, The Suicide Squad's cast has gained another big star.

Stallone recently posted a video to his Instagram where he revealed that he was on his way to go film a scene for The Suicide Squad. Unsurprisingly, Stallone wasn't able to reveal his role but says that the movie is going to be worth the wait. Stallone's full video can be seen below:

With Stallone being cast in The Suicide Squad, that makes him another actor who has appeared in both the DC and Marvel film franchises. Fans will recall that he had a brief appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as Stakar Ogord (Starhawk), which was one of his few times appearing in a superhero movie. Gunn looks to have brought Stallone in for another cameo role, but fans can see Stallone as a superhero in a more starring role when Samaritan hits theaters next Summer.

While fans had known Gunn was building up an impressive cast for a while, the full cast list for The Suicide Squad wasn't announced until DC FanDome. Since Stallone just announced that he will be apart of the movie, it will likely be quite some time before fans find out who exactly he is playing. As mentioned earlier, The Suicide Squad is incorporating a lot of obscure DC villains, so the possibilities for who he could be playing are endless. That being said, with Stallone being such a late addition to The Suicide Squad's cast, it's unlikely he will have a prominent role.
