Director James Gunn revealed The Suicide Squad movie official logo and title treatment. The Suicide Squad is the followup to David Ayer's 2016 DC Extended Universe film Suicide Squad, which introduced a team of villains forced to save the world from a magical threat. Although it's not exactly a direct sequel, Gunn's Suicide Squad does feature a few returning stars, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang among others. Additionally, the movie has a fair share of new cast members, like Pete Davidson and Nathan Fillion, and their roles have largely been kept under wraps along with the plot of The Suicide Squad.

That's all set to change later this month when DC FanDome is held on Aug. 22, the 24 hour virtual convention dedicated to all things DC. The company will be bringing some of their biggest movie, TV, comics and game properties to the convention, offering new looks at upcoming projects and some surprising reveals. When DC FanDome was first announced, Gunn confirmed The Suicide Squad cast would attend and more recently the director revealed the movie's first look will be unveiled at the virtual con. Now, Gunn has revealed a new sneak peek at the movie's logo.

The Suicide Squad Movie Title Treatment Revealed By James Gunn

With the red and yellow color scheme and the bullet holes across the "suicide," the logo is reminiscent of John Ostrander's run on the Suicide Squad comics in the late 80s, early 90s, which had art by Luke McDonnell. The Suicide Squad logo in the comics has changed over the years, sometimes maintaining the bullet holes, sometimes not - and sometimes adding a bullseye to the Q in "squad." Between the colors and the design, The Suicide Squad movie title treatment sticks close to the comics, which may offer some hint of how close Gunn's film will be to the source material.

That said, it's unlikely The Suicide Squad's story will be exactly like the comics, even if it draws a lot of inspiration from Ostrander's run. As Gunn showed when he directed Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel for Marvel Studios, the filmmaker has a knack for adapting atypical superhero teams to the big screen and making them accessible to all manner of moviegoer. With Gunn entering a world that's already been established with these DCEU characters, The Suicide Squad is a different case, but given the director's humor and storytelling sensibilities the film has the potential to deliver a comic adaptation that will entertain diehard fans and casual moviegoers alike. We'll know more of what exactly to expect from The Suicide Squad when the first look debuts at DC FanDome in a few weeks.
