Warner Bros. reveals a new look at The Suicide Squad movie logo in conjunction with the announcement of DC FanDome. Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad serves as a followup of sorts to David Ayer's 2016 movie, Suicide Squad. The film will feature a handful of characters from Ayer's, including Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flagg and Viola Davis' Amanda Waller. They're joined by an all-star roster of new cast mates, including Peter Capaldi, Idris Elba, John Cena, Taika Waititi and Nathan Fillion among others. Still, as Gunn teased when he announced the full Suicide Squad 2 cast, fans shouldn't get too attached since some characters are bound to die in the movie.

Aside from the cast, and the returning characters, there's little known about The Suicide Squad. Set photos have revealed teases about the upcoming DC Extended Universe movie, including looks at costumes for some of the anti-heroes. Harley Quinn gets a red and black makeover, both with her hair and her costuming, after appearing with pink and blue hair in Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). The Suicide Squad is also sticking to its current August 2021 release date despite multiple delays not only across the DCEU, but Hollywood as a whole. Now, fans can expect news about the upcoming movie at the DC FanDome event this summer, and Warner Bros. is kicking it off with a new look at the movie logo.

As part of the DC FanDome announcement, Warner Bros. posted about the event across their DC movie Twitter profiles. The Suicide Squad video reveals a new, even more colorful look at the movie's logo. The logo was previously confirmed by Gunn when he announced the cast, but the bright blue background is new and hints at a much more colorful style to the film's promotion.

It's unclear if this new blue background is indicative of a more candy-colored palette for Gunn's movie. As fans will remember, Ayer's Suicide Squad featured a similar candy-colored marketing campaign, which was at odds with the grittier, more grounded movie. However, The Suicide Squad is a much different situation. Before and after the release of Ayer's Suicide Squad, there were rumors and reports about Warner Bros. meddling with the movie, changing it to be lighter and farther removed from the dark tone of other DCEU movies at the time. So far, it seems Warner Bros. is trusting Gunn, and considering how involved he is at all levels of his movies, it's likely the colorful logo falls in line with his vision.

Of course, it's not surprising that Gunn's The Suicide Squad would be a lighter, more humorous take on the DC anti-hero team, considering arguably his most well-known projects are Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Like the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they balance humor with action and drama, Gunn's more so than some other Marvel movies. That said, The Suicide Squad is a different comic book property so it's certain to differ from Guardians of the Galaxy in tone, but Gunn's humor will no doubt shine through. It's difficult to discern much simply from The Suicide Squad logo, even if it hints at a lighter movie. Thankfully, fans will get a better idea of what to expect from The Suicide Squad at DC FanDome this summer.
