James Gunn announces that several main actors have wrapped shooting on The Suicide Squad, and teases that some major characters may die. Released in 2016, the original Suicide Squad introduced a number of popular DC comic book characters into the DCEU, most notably Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn (who of course lives on in this year’s Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey).

Though Suicide Squad had its diehard defenders and was a relative hit with $746 million at the worldwide box office, the sequel represents a change of direction for the property, with both director David Ayer and star Will Smith departing. But The Suicide Squad as it’s been dubbed won’t be a complete departure from the original, as Robbie is set to return as Quinn, alongside fellow returning stars Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis. And the movie is set to introduce some important new characters including John Cena’s Peacemaker and David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man, as well as Idris Elba as an unidentified character.

In recent weeks, Gunn, Robbie and company have been in Panama bringing the highly-anticipated Suicide Squad sequel to life. Now, Gunn has announced that the Panama part of the shoot has finished, and he’s revealed which actors are now done working on the film (pending their being recalled for reshoots of course). Gunn also took to Twitter to address the idea of major characters dying in the film, warning fans that their favorites may not make it all the way to the end. See the posts in the space below:

Most interestingly, Gunn reveals that Kinnaman and Cena are both finished working on the film now that the Panama shoot is over, as are actors Joaquin Cosio, Daniela Melchior and Steve Agee. This could be taken as an indication that Kinnaman and Cena’s characters will die during the course of the movie, but Gunn also points out in his tweet that films shoot out of order and that the movie’s ending has already been filmed, so by no means should his reveal about Kinnaman and Cena be taken as a spoiler about the fates of their characters. With all that said, Gunn also cautions fans not to get too attached to any of the characters.

Overall, the Panama shoot was very eventful not only for Gunn and the film crew but also for fans, who got to see a lot of behind-the-scenes material leaked out to the internet, including images of Robbie as Quinn, Elba in costume as whatever character he is playing and slightly spoilery material showing Elba and Cena’s characters being arrested. Clearly, some big action goes down in the scenes shot in Panama, and Gunn has at least opened up the possibility that some major characters will be taken down during the course of that action.

Of course, there’s still a ton of work left for Gunn and company to complete before The Suicide Squad is ready hit theaters. There are now some clues out there, but not enough to piece together the movie’s plot or give away any of the movie’s biggest secrets.
