James Gunn teases Margot Robbie's upcoming performance as Harley Quinn in this year's The Suicide Squad. Acting as a semi-sequel, semi-reboot to the 2016 Suicide SquadGunn's highly-anticipated film will introduce a brand new Task Force X as they embark on a dangerous mission, though some familiar faces from the first installment will return. This includes Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), and yes, Harley Quinn. Aside from them, however, The Suicide Squad will be populated by new faces such as Peacemaker (John Cena), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), and Thinker (Peter Capaldi).

The Suicide Squad will be Robbie's third big screen outing as Harley, following the original Suicide Squad and last year's Birds of Prey. Though the 2016 Suicide Squad earned mixed responses from fans and critics, Robbie's performance as Harley was easily the most positively received part of the DC film. At the time, numerous projects starring Harley went into development, but some have been slow to come. Nevertheless, Gunn has continuously hyped The Suicide Squad's depiction of Harley, which promises to be different than what has come before.

On Saturday, Gunn participated in one of his fan Q&A sessions on social media and revealed some new tidbits about The Suicide Squad. One fan asked Gunn which character he's most excited for audiences to see. Gunn acknowledged it's hard to single out one person, but he did say he's quite eager for people to "see where Margot has gone with Harley." He also added Sean Gunn's Weasel is "really something to behold."

The Suicide Squad boasts a hefty, star-studded cast, so it makes sense that Gunn might have a hard time picking the one he's most excited about. Some characters have already been tapped as MVPs, like Cena's Peacemaker, who will be leading his own spin-off series. Now it's clear Harley will once again steal the show, thanks to Robbie's performance. Plus, Weasel might be a surprising standout. It will be quite interesting to see who else will capture the audience's attention the most in The Suicide Squad.

Based on Gunn's comments, it sounds like Robbie is taking Harley to some new places. As Robbie has already played the wild anti-heroine twice before, she likely feels more confident in the role, and therefore more willing to try some new things. Birds of Prey already introduced an excellent new Harley, and as long as The Suicide Squad builds upon that in a smart way, fans will be thrilled. Perhaps Robbie's new direction for Harley will be revealed once The Suicide Squad finally releases its first trailer, which Gunn recently told fans to be patient for. Hopefully, that wait won't go on for much longer.
