New The Suicide Squad fan art recreates Harley Quinn in the style of Batman: The Animated Series. Played by Margot Robbie, Harley Quinn has had a major impact on the DC Extended Universe. She was introduced in David Ayer's Suicide Squad before going on to star in Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Harley instantly became a fan favorite, which explains why Robbie will reprise her role next year in The Suicide Squad. As Harley Quinn has seen a resurgence on the big screen, she's likewise making waves on television. WarnerMedia just ordered season 3 of the animated series Harley Quinn, which will premiere on HBO Max. The show has been a critical success and is also beloved by many fans.

Interestingly, Harley Quinn made her original debut on the small screen. Unlike most comic book characters, she was crafted specifically for Batman: The Animated Series in the 1990s. She was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, who played important roles in writing and developing the show, with Timm serving as co-creator. Harley Quinn's role on Batman: The Animated Series was well-received, and she was soon adapted into DC comic book canon. With both her original introduction and Harley Quinn, the character is no stranger to animation.

However, Robbie's version has only been rendered in live-action. Recently, artist Nate Roba decided to change that, using Harley Quinn's new costume in The Suicide Squad as the basis for his image. What's more, Harley is seen in the style of Batman: The Animated Series, making it a good representation of Harleys past and present. Check out Roba's work below:

It's an impressively accurate recreation of Harley Quinn's new look, especially considering The Suicide Squad hasn't come out yet. The art features the classic red and black combo, as well as Harley's belt and choker. All told, it should make fans even more excited to see her new look on the big screen next year.

Considering Harley's television origins, it's no wonder this mashup works so well. Batman: The Animated Series is seen as one of the best animated shows ever, and its work with characters like Harley is one of the reasons. Roba's art pays homage to the original show, while also respecting Robbie's version of Harley Quinn is ultimately DC's future. Hopefully, The Suicide Squad is another fun adventure for Harley and co. that reminds audiences why they fell in love with her character in the first place.
