A series of DC and Marvel film characters, including Robert Pattinson's Batman and Jared Leto's Joker, are featured in some incredible new fan posters inspired by the artwork for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. The highly-anticipated DC film is currently set to premiere in August of next year. While it is, on the surface, a follow-up to David Ayer's 2016 Suicide Squad film as well, The Suicide Squad is actually intended to be more of a soft reboot for the DC franchise.

The central storyline for The Suicide Squad remains largely unknown, although Warner Bros. executives were apparently so impressed by Gunn's director's cut that they had little-to-no feedback. Moreover, the movie's cast boasts a host of both familiar and new faces, with fan favorites such as Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag all returning for The Suicide Squad. Meanwhile, the film also features a multitude of other A-list stars on its roster, including Idris Elba, John Cena, and Sean Gunn.

Talented digital artist HKartworks has posted four gorgeous new Suicide Squad fan posters on their Twitter account; each highlighting a character that HKartworks presumably wishes was in The Suicide Squad. Specifically, the four posters showcase Dave Bautista's Drax, Will Smith's Deadshot, Pattinson's Batman, and Leto's Joker. Each poster features the actor's name alongside the character's headshot, with unique details and backgrounds for each creation - similar to the character artwork featured in The Suicide Squad's roll call promotional video. As of now, it does appear that HKartworks' designs are more examples of wishful thinking than anything else. Drax the Destroyer, for example, is a Marvel character and a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which makes the possibility of him showing up in a DC film incredibly slim. Furthermore, while characters like Bruce Wayne and Joker did appear in 2016's Suicide Squad, there has been no word on either Pattinson's take on the Dark Knight or Leto's version of the Joker making an appearance in Gunn's Suicide Squad. As such, while HKartworks' posters are undeniably fun and stunning to look at, it's unlikely that such an onscreen team up will ever actually come to fruition.

Even without characters such as Bautista's Drax and Leto's Joker appearing in The Suicide Squad though, there's still plenty to look forward to in the film. Several of the actors involved in The Suicide Squad have, for instance, spoken profusely about James Gunn's clear direction for the movie, as well as how the film has a lighter, more comedic tone than its predecessor. After the 2016 Suicide Squad fell flat for many, fans are hoping that the new film will be able to breathe life back into the DC franchise. Fortunately, early comments from those involved in the production seem to indicate that The Suicide Squad will, in fact, do just that.
