The first trailer for Succession season 3 picks up after last season's jaw-dropping cliffhanger as the Roy family goes to war. HBO's awards darling was a slow burn hit throughout its first season and reached even greater heights of acclaim in the second. In following the exploits and in-fighting within the toxic Roy family, Succession provided a whip-smart look at the powerful elites of the media industry. The series last dropped new episodes in 2019 and has been on hiatus ever since, with production briefly delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Where things last left off on Succession, seemingly loyal son Kendall (Jeremy Strong) made a bombshell declaration to the world. Instead of taking the fall for Waystar RoyCo's various misdeeds, Kendall exposed his father Logan (Brian Cox) as the bullying tyrant he is and confirmed he knew all along that his company was hiding years of sexual misconduct. This set the stage for an explosive season 3, with family members all being forced to take sides in this new conflict.

On Tuesday, HBO unveiled the first full trailer for Succession season 3. If anyone thought Logan would take Kendall's betrayal lying down, the footage sets them straight. The battle lines are being drawn, and it looks like there is a brutal fight ahead. Check out the trailer below.

Kendall's season 2 turn against his father was a stunning twist, and right from the start of the Succession trailer, it's clear viewers are watching a man reborn. He spent much of the second season with his tail between his legs, but now Kendall is back and ready to fight. His first order of business appears to be rallying his siblings against Logan, but it remains to be seen if any of them will bite. The biggest question mark is perhaps Shiv (Sarah Snook), who seems torn between Kendall and Logan. Either way, she still has her eye on being in charge.

This extended look at Succession season 3 still features plenty of the things fans have come to expect from the series, from a ridiculous and profane interaction between Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) and Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) to the black humor tacked onto the end of the clip. Succession remains without a release date, though it's planned to debut sometime this fall. Newcomers to the cast include Sanaa Lathan, Alexander Skarsgård, and Adrian Brody. Its longer-than-expected hiatus has allowed more excitement to build, and the above trailer promises Succession will return with a bang. Hopefully it can continue its winning streak with more clever twists, witty dialogue, and impressively horrible characters.
