HBO has announced the release date of Succession’s third season. Created by Jesse Armstrong, the series follows the dysfunctional and nauseatingly wealthy Roy family, proprietors of the global media conglomerate Waystar RoyCo. Succession specifically centers around the greedy Roy children as they scheme to become their surly father Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) successor. The show first premiered in June 2018 to critical acclaim.

Now, the Succession Twitter account has posted news of an October 17th release date. The announcement follows a long-teased Fall release date. HBO also released images accompanying the release update, with Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong) staring down his father as they are flanked by the rest of the Roy clan. Savvy fans will notice that the Instagram poster posted on the official Succession account features different placements of the various characters, mimicking the mind games and shifting allegiances that have come to define the series. Succession’s second season ended in October 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Succession was one of several HBO productions that experienced delays. However, a trailer for the new season dropped in July, setting the tone for another season of betrayal, in-fighting, and black humor.

In addition to Cox and Strong, the actors’ costars Matthew Macfadyen, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Nicholas Braun, and Alan Ruck are all returning for season 3. The series has also tacked on a number of big names ahead of the third season. Alexander Skarsgård will appear in a recurring capacity as a tech CEO; Hope Davis will join as the daughter of a rival media conglomerate; and Adrien Brody has been cast as a billionaire activist investor.
