Subnautica: Below Zero, the sequel to 2018's hit game Subnautica, is arriving for PC and console this May according to the title's publisher and developer Unknown Worlds. Subnautica is widely regarded as one of the best exploration games with an aquatic setting, although it is not quite as relaxing as some other similar games, incorporating horror elements in the depths of its vast ocean.

Subnautica first releases in 2018 and went on to become a surprise hit. It went on to win numerous awards thanks to its gorgeous visuals and striking mixture of action-adventure and survival gameplay. This helped it stand out from waterborne games like Abzu and Sunless Sea, as well as its numerous crafting/survival competitors.

Unknown Worlds has today revealed that the sequel to its highly successful open-world survival game Subnautica is arriving on PC and consoles in May. Subnautica: Below Zero is scheduled to launch on May 14, 2021 for PC and Mac via Steam and the Epic Game Store. Versions for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S are all due out at the same time as a physical and digital release, with a price of $29.99. Unknown Worlds is also offering a special bundle that includes the sequel and the original game on Nintendo Switch for the first time for $59.99. An official reveal trailer is incoming and will be added below once officially published.

The sequel will see players exploring the underwater depths of a brand new area of the alien planet that players crash-landed on in the first title. With ice covering the surface of the planet, Subanutica: Below Zero tasks players with heading beneath the frozen covering to discover new aquatic creatures that will go to extreme lengths to ensure their survival. The game also includes a host of new technologies to create and a fresh story that focuses on the treacherous mysteries of Planet 4546B. The developer has also implemented a number of improvements based on player feedback while the title has been in Early Access.

Sunautica: Below Zero is currently available as an Early Access title on Steam, giving fans a chance to play the game before its full launch and test out the various features included. Players will no doubt be relieved to see it leaving this testing stage. Other high-profile titles often find themselves in Early Access for extended periods of time without any end in sight in terms of an actual retail release.

With Subnautica being something of a critical and commercial success, scoring strong reviews at most outlets and remaining , there will be plenty of excitement about Subnautica: Below Zero. Unknown Worlds seems to have put a lot of effort into ensuring the game lives up to its predecessor, including a lengthy incubation period in Early Access so the omens are certainly positive.
