Pokémon Sword & Shield had controversial elements among fans such as not including the National Pokédex and having graphics that some fans saw as unimpressive, but it made up for these shortcomings by featuring some of the most powerful pokémon to be introduced to the franchise in some time. Information like stats, abilities, moves, and more can be used to measure a Pokémon's strength, and this information is available on Serebii.net.

There are eleven Legendary and Mythical Pokémon from the Galar region, including the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra. Most of them rank among the strongest in the region, which may be obvious. As such, they should not be considered for a collection of powerful, accessible Pokémon. Galar gave some existing Pokémon much-needed upgrades through regional variants and mega evolutions, as well.

Hatterene

A close-up of a smiling Hatterene in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Hatterene is unlikely to ever outspeed an opponent, but its defensive stats help to make up for this. Its typing of Psychic/Fairy makes it destined to be a Special attacker, which is bolstered by its very high Special Attack stat.

With access to some fantastic attacks with this move classification, Hatterene can be frightening to face. This is especially true if it uses Calm Mind to raise its Special stats. If it does this, Hatterene can sweep through opposing teams, even if they are neutral matchups, without much difficulty.

Rillaboom

Rillaboom has some unfortunate downsides such as its less-than-ideal Special Defense, as well as its pure Grass typing. These are some of the reasons it ranks on the lower end among the Pokémon Grass starters' final forms.

Despite these drawbacks, Rillaboom still has strengths that make it one of the strongest Pokémon Galar has to offer. It has a fairly high HP stat and an excellent Attack stat. In addition, its Ability Overgrow powers up Rillaboom's Grass moves when it has low health. This buffs its already powerful Physical Grass moves.

Coalossal

Like Hatterene, Coalossal is incredibly slow. While this can be a hindrance if it faces a Water or Ground-type, it can usually take the hits that come its way, granted they are not one of these two types. It has high defensive stats and great HP, and, if it has the Ability Flame Body, opponents that make physical contact may get burned.

Its offensive stats are only decent, but, by remaining in battle, Coalossal can chip away at the health of its enemies until it is victorious. One of its best moves, Heat Crash, uses its massive weight against opponents and can help it to defeat them relatively swiftly.

Inteleon

A Gigantamax Inteleon in battle in Sword & Shield

Being a pure Water-type has its benefits and downsides. On one hand, Inteleon is only weak to two types. On the other, most other types do neutral damage against it, which is not great in terms of defense. Fortunately, Inteleon makes up for this by having incredible Speed and Special Attack stats.

It plays into its role as a glass cannon by sacrificing its defensive stats. This can be dangerous, but, if used well, Inteleon can defeat entire teams without a scratch. Inteleon's Ability Torrent powers up its Water moves further when it is at low health, giving it more options if it does take some hits. In addition, its Hidden Ability Sniper powers up critical hits significantly, drastically bolstering its offensive capabilities.

Obstagoon

Aside from its extreme vulnerability to Fighting-type attacks, Obstagoon is a reliable pick in battle. The much-appreciated upgrade to the Zigzagoon line is a fairly well-rounded combatant save for the fact that it only has decent Special Defense and low Special Attack stats. The former can be an issue when facing Fairy-types, but its sizable HP helps to negate these issues.

With many Physical moves and an above-average Attack stat, Obstagoon stands tall in many matchups. Its signature move Obstruct can be helpful in some situations, but these must be calculated. Certain type weaknesses can hinder it greatly, but most neutral matchups can swing in its favor.

Duraludon

Duralodon has several things going for it that make it a viable Pokémon. For one, it has fantastic typing. Steel/Dragon is one of the best dual-type pokémon combinations in the franchise, partially because it only allows for weaknesses to Fighting and Ground types. Duralodon's Speed stat is decent but not incredible, and its Special Defense stat is mediocre.

This would be an issue for most Pokémon, but Duralodon's type weaknesses primarily use Physical attacks. With a great Defense stat, this pokémon acts as a stone wall against most forms of damage. It also has a high Special Attack stat, which makes it much more intimidating.

Grimmsnarl

The Impidimp line is the only evolutionary family in the Pokémon franchise to boast the Dark/Fairy dual-typing. Grimmsnarl has unfortunate defense and Speed stats which make it somewhat vulnerable. However, it does have a relatively high HP stat, and, if it can stay in the battle for long enough, it can be a powerhouse.

It has a great Attack stat and access to some fantastic Physical Dark and Fairy moves. It is rare for a Fairy-type to be a Physical attacker, but Grimmsnarl fills this role very well. If it needs to use Special moves to deal with a particular opponent, though, this stat is also fairly high. This Pokémon is dangerous if not dealt with quickly.

Cinderace

A Giatanamax Cinderace in battle in Sword & Shield

Cinderace's defenses and HP are lacking, but its strengths heavily outweigh its weaknesses. While Cinderace can use the Ability Blaze, which functions similarly to the type-boosting Abilities of its fellow fully evolved starters, its Hidden Ability Libero makes it into one of the most unpredictable Pokémon in the Galar region.

This changes Cinderace's typing to match the move it is about to use. A Same Type Attack Bonus on every blow can combine with Cinderace's great Attack stat to make each strike devastating. With exceptional Speed, as well, Cinderace can be borderline unstoppable.

Dragapult

The pseudo-Legendary of the Galar region Dragapult is known for its Speed. Although its defensive stats are unimpressive, especially when compared to those of other pseudo-Legendaries, Dragapult functions best as a glass cannon.

Its monstrous Speed stat lets it strike before most opponents, and its high offensive stats often let it finish the job quickly. This is part of what makes it one of the best dual-type Ghost Pokémon. It also has the honor of being the first pseudo-Legendary with a Ghost typing. As long as it can take down opponents rapidly, Dragapult is a great combatant.

Dracovish

Dracovish affectionately bites Ash's head

Dracovish has decent defenses and bulk, but there are several other reasons why it is one of the most highly regarded Fossil Pokémon in the franchise. One reason is due to its typing of Water/Dragon. This combination leaves it weak to only Dragon and Fairy types. Another reason, and perhaps the more popular, is due to its offensive capabilities surrounding the move Fishious Rend.

The power of this already strong Water-type move doubles if Dracovish attacks before its opponent. If the Pokémon has the Ability Strong Jaw, which buffs biting moves, Fishious Rend's power increases even further. Dracovish can learn several other biting moves, as well, giving this Ability more utility and making this Pokémon a potential powerhouse in battle.
