Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke have joined hands for Stangers - an upcoming Netflix feature film from Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Robinson made her directorial debut in 2019 with the Netlfix rom-com Someone Great. The movie, which starred Gina Rodriguez, Brittany Snow, DeWanda Wise, Lakeith Stanfield, and Peter Vack in the lead roles, was highly popular on the steamer and quite well-received among critics. Now Robinson, who is also a writer on Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder, is returning to Netflix for yet another directorial venture. And this time she has teamed up with Riverdale's Veronica Lodge (Mendes) and Stranger Things' Robin Buckley (Hawke) for her new project.

According to Deadline, Robinson's Strangers is an unsettling, Hitchock-ian dark comedy that centers on two teenage girls: Drew - who is dominant attractive - and Eleanor - who is a reluctant goth. Drew encounters Eleanor in a furtive meet-cute and as the two develop a connection, each goes after the other's bully. Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke will play the lead duo of Eleanor and Drew in Strangers, although it's unclear who will play whom. While helming the movie, Robinson also serves as an executive producer on Strangers alongside Anthony Bregman and Peter Cron from Likely Story.

Robinson's recent take on the everlasting bond of female friendships, Someone Great, was relatable and charming. And since Strangers is also about female friendships, Robinson can be safely counted upon to recreate the magic of her recent film. Robinson's films are known for the undeniable chemistry between their leads, so it will certainly be interesting to see Mendes and Hawke's unique pairing in the upcoming film. Although it would have been better if Robinson would have cast actual teenagers to essay the lead parts rather than actresses who are now in their 20s.
