Season 4, Volume 2 of Stranger Things was released on July 1, and fans are still obsessing over the events of the season and their favorite series moments. This latest season gave viewers a revealing look into Hawkins and how the first gate into the Upside Down was opened.
While much of the season takes a dive into darker and more mature story threads, Stranger Things manages to throw in a good amount of wholesome and heart-warming scenes to lighten the mood. Recently, Reddit users came together to discuss their favorites.
Steve & Robin Drive To School
4x1: "The Hellfire Club"
In the first episode of season 4, Steve and Robin are on their way to school, talking about girls. Steve encourages Robin to pursue a relationship with a girl from Band.
Reddit user nascarfan624 shares their thoughts on the scene, saying, "Steve Harrington being the greatest of allies." Ebba_and_flow agrees, saying, "Cannot physically express how much I love Steve and Robin's relationship." Steve and Robin's relationship is amazing. This is a great moment between friends trying to psyche each other up. The dialogue is hilarious and reminiscent of how high school-aged friends actually speak to each other.
Eleven & Hopper Have Breakfast Together
2x2: "Trick Or Treat, Freak"
El is living with Hopper in the middle of nowhere. After an argument over whether to go trick-or-treating in this awesome Halloween-themed episode, they eat breakfast and find peace over Eggo waffles.
Reddit users love this scene between El and Hopper. Xoxobabyj26 says, "My favorite moments in S2 [were] when we got to see them bonding." Their bonding scenes are amazing, and this is one of the best. Both characters have a rough past with father-daughter relationships, but through the events of season 1, they find each other and form a beautiful friendship. They have their struggles at times, but they always work it out.
Steve Tells Dustin How He Does His Hair
2x6: "The Spy"
Steve and Dustin attempt to lure Dustin's demo-dog down a train track. Dustin asks Steve for relationship advice and the secret to how he gets his iconic hairstyle.
Reddit user Theend2314 shares, "This was sweet. [Steve] really encouraged Dustin's confidence and self-esteem." When season 2 was released on Netflix, a wholesome relationship between Dustin and Steve was not something viewers were expecting. This scene is the beginning of their friendship, and initially, Steve feels weird about hanging with a kid, but he comes to see Dustin as a brother. His reveal about his hair is proof Steve is letting his guard down.
The Kids Play Dungeons & Dragons
1x1: "The Vanishing Of Will Byers"
In the opening scene of the pilot--one of the greatest TV pilots of all time--viewers watch as Will, Mike, Lucas, and Dustin play Dungeons & Dragons in Mike's basement.
Grimmer026 is passionate about this moment, sharing, "Opening scene, playing D&D in the basement with friends and pizza. Mom busting up the fun... struck every nostalgic nerve for me." This Redditor speaks the truth. For anyone who grew up in the 80s, this scene is sure to be reminiscent of their childhood. This moment is also arguably the only completely normal scene in the whole series. These kids have no care in the world, and there aren't many things more wholesome than a few kids just being kids.
Mike Shows El His House
1x2: "The Weirdo On Maple Street"
When his parents leave for the day, Mike brings Eleven up from the basement and gives her a tour of his home. He shows her the living room and the toys in his room.
Littlemissdandelion believes this is "such an innocent and sweet scene." Reddit user Ghostconqueror specifies, "When Mike shows Eleven how to rock back in the chair, her smile melts my heart every time." There is something about these kids and the child actors that portray them that feels so authentic and innocent, especially in the first season of Stranger Things. El is so intrigued by everything in Mike's home, but she remains cautious, like a kid in a candy store who's afraid to touch anything.
Robin Comes Out To Steve
3x7: "The Bite"
After their escape from the Russians, Steve and Robin chill in the bathroom while the drugs they were given wear off. Robin tells Steve that she's gay in a beautiful and iconic TV moment.
Wolven_Essence focuses on Steve's role in this scene, stating, "Dude has to at least be a little crushed at the moment, but he takes it really well and proceeds to tease her about the girl she had a crush on in an absolutely friendly way." Steve has come a long way since season 1. His and Robin's relationship is brilliant and offers his character more of a chance to share his changed personality. More than that, this scene was wonderfully written and blocked. Robin's coming out is wholesome, not just because of Steve's response, but because she's finally showing somebody who she is.
Lucas Asks His Dad For Relationship Advice
2x5: "Dig Dug"
At a Sinclair family dinner, Lucas asks his father for relationship advice. Mr. Sinclair admits that when he makes his wife mad, he apologizes because even when she's wrong, she's right.
Historical_Height_29 adores this scene, sharing, "When Lucas asks his dad for relationship advice. 'She's always right, son.' Most super wholesome little window into Lucas and his life." Aside from the more prominent role Erica is given in the past two seasons, Lucas' family is never shown or mentioned. Lucas is often considered an underrated Stranger Things character. While fans wish to see more of his family, their brief appearance in season 2 was perfectly wholesome and fit well into Lucas' narrative at the time.
Steve & Dustin Reunite At Scoops Ahoy
3x2: "The Mall Rats"
After spending weeks away at camp, Dustin returns to Hawkins. After meeting his Dungeons & Dragons buddies, he heads to the mall and reunites with Steve.
The Duffer Brothers were originally going to kill Steve off at the end of the first season. Fortunately, they decided against it, and now, Stranger Things houses TV's greatest bromance. Reddit user cindylouwhovian says of this iconic moment, "The hug and the stupid greeting dance... made me so happy." There's something about Steve and Dustin being happy that makes viewers happy. The actors' chemistry is off the charts, and the pure joy they're exhibiting at this moment brings out all the wholesome feels.
Max & Eleven's Day At The Mall
3x2: "The Mall Rats"
Max and El are upset with Lucas and Mike. To cheer El up, Max brings her to the mall for a girl's day. They try on clothes, buy ice cream, and have loads of fun together.
Several Reddit users believe this scene to be one of (if not the most) wholesome moments in the entire show. Mustardlyy shares, "The entire s3 El and Max montage is too cute! It was nice to see El having fun and [the both of them] being normal kids." Girls lifting other girls up is great to see, and after little shared screen time in season 2, Eleven and Max were due for a girl's day. The Madonna in the background grants viewers nostalgia, and the whole scene leaves a warm feeling in the heart. It is wonderful moments such as these that make Max's apparent death and hospitalization so tragic in the Stranger Things season 4 finale.
Nancy Dances With Dustin At The Snowball
2x9: "The Gate"
After Dustin asks several girls to dance and is rejected by every one, Nancy steps up. She asks Dustin to dance and encourages him to keep his confidence.
User cranfeckintastic goes into a spiel about this moment, summing up how nearly all fans on Reddit feel about it: "My absolute favorite is when Nancy sees Dustin at the Snowball, realizes he's been rejected by some of the girls... When she walks up and asks him to dance with her, it's just such a sweet, selfless thing for her to do for him, and a great moment considering she slams her bedroom door in his face in the first episode of season 1." Nancy has certainly had great character development. Her compassion at the Snowball is unmatched, especially since Dustin is at his lowest here.
