A new rumor suggests that Stranger Things season 1 will be releasing on Blu-ray and DVD in special VHS packaging. The critically-acclaimed series debuts its second season later this month, and anticipation could not be higher. Netflix has been busy promoting the series at various entertainment conventions over the summer, and now they have gone full-steam ahead into promoting the Halloween aspect of the new season, including periodically releasing classic movie-themed posters.
Since the new season bows in just three weeks, millions of people may be heading back to Hawkins, IN, to get reacquainted with the storyline as well as the main players involved prior to the new season's premiere. Of course, that means tuning back into Netflix - but those who are inclined to collect each season of their favorite shows on home video, including Stranger Things, may soon get their chance if a new rumor is to be believed.

A new batch of images surfaced on Imgur today (below), revealing an upcoming Blu-ray/DVD release for Stranger Things season 1. Although it's not unheard of for Netflix shows to get sudden releases on home video, it's also something that tends to make a much bigger splash. Of course, Netflix may be waiting to announce the release sometime this weekend, during New York Comic Con 2017.
What's more, the surprise home video release may also come in special VHS-themed packaging, filled out with the age-old warning label on the back. The Collector's Edition will supposedly come packed with a 4-disc Blu-ray and DVD set, as well as a collectible poster - though it's difficult to make out what the poster looks like from the photo (above). Considering that Netflix released Stranger Things cassette tapes for the series' soundtrack earlier this year, it stands to reason that they would also release the series' first season on home video in similar packaging.
The new rumor comes on the heels of the streaming giant announcing plans to increase prices for new and existing customers, which was enough for the company's stock to skyrocket to record numbers this afternoon. Now, with Stranger Things returning later this month, and with season 3 already confirmed, Netflix seems to have a definitive plan for the foreseeable future. For now, audiences and series fans are excited to return to Hawkins for another monster adventure that may result in yet another major cliffhanger. We'll just have to wait and see what happens come Halloween.
