The actor who plays Vecna in Stranger Things season 4 shares his reactions to some of the most popular memes about the character. Stranger Things season 4 was split into two parts, the first of which was released on Netflix on May 27, 2022, followed by the second on July 1. Both volumes proved to be just as popular and widely watched as the previous seasons, resulting in a cavalcade of memes and internet reactions. In fact, the fan response has been so strong that the songs "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" by Kate Bush and "Master of Puppets" by Metallica have both been racing up the charts because of their being prominently featured on the show.

One of the elements of the season that fans have really rallied behind is the villain Vecna, who takes advantage of the childhood trauma of his victims. Vecna is depicted as a humanoid being made of a not-quite-flesh substance that looks similar to the burned visage of A Nightmare on Elm Street villain Freddy Krueger. Underneath the layers of makeup, the character is played by Jamie Campbell Bower, a British actor who has appeared in Camelot and Will, in addition to playing the Volturi member Caius in The Twilight Saga.

This week on Twitter, the official Netflix account shared a video featuring Bower. They challenged the actor by having him react to memes about Vecna, forcing him to face the mountain of thirst the internet has expressed for the character. This includes some more common memes, including a Vecna cosplay makeup video and jokes about what song fans would play to get themselves out of his clutches, but there are also many videos about how handsome Vecna is, one of which includes a shocking word Bower had clearly never encountered before. Bower has been an actor since 2007, appearing in a variety of prominent franchises, including playing the young Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1. However, this is likely the first time one of his characters has garnered such a fevered response. Usually, he is playing a side character in a franchise with many more prominent sources of fan thirst, so being front and center is likely an unusual experience.

Stranger Things fans spread their love far and wide, however. A critical figure like Vecna is absolutely unable to escape the magnetic pull of thirsty memes. The villain will likely return in season 5 (though it hasn't been 100% officially confirmed), so Bower will certainly need to steel himself for even more Internet mayhem.
