Stranger Things star David Harbour has confirmed when season 5 will start filming. Centered on the small town of Hawkins, Stranger Things follows the town's citizens as they desperately try to face off against threats from another dimension. As the final fight with the Upside Down looms, the young stars of the show will need to prepare themselves for a hard-hitting final season.

While there has been no official word on when Stranger Things season 5 will be released, filming is almost ready to start. In an interview with Collider, Harbour revealed that official production will begin in June. Check out his quote below:

"We're walking into season five. I've got a couple more months to train. We start shooting that in June, though, and that will be the final season. I did a lot of training for season four. He [Hopper] was in a very specific position, that Russian prison. It was about making him a different guy and sort of shedding a layer of himself physically, mentally, and emotionally. But now he's back in town, he's back in America where they have cheeseburgers, so he will be well-fed."

Everything We Know About Stranger Things Season 5

Vecna's monstrous face clouded in red in Stranger Things

With season 5 promising to serve as a conclusion for the entirety of Stranger Things, Netflix's hit science fiction show is almost at an end. If the show does start filming in June, it will be a great sign for those waiting eagerly for the next season. Unfortunately, Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard has hinted at a late release window for Stranger Things season 5 that could see it released sometime in 2025.

With Vecna severely injured but still alive, the final episodes will likely involve the separate groups of Hellfire Club heroes banding together to take him down. Stranger Things season 5 is expected to wrap up all the show's ongoing plots, while also bringing character arcs to a neat conclusion. After all, the Duffer brothers have already promised that any potential spin-offs will be focused on new characters, rather than the Hawkins crew.

The final season of Stranger Things will also feature a significant time jump to help explain away how much the younger actors have aged since season 1 began. It will be a serious departure for the show, but as Stranger Things season 5 is meant to wrap up their stories, seeing them a little older and set to head off to college could help provide some closure. With Stranger Things ending with massive stakes, filming is likely to be intense and will take a significant amount of time.
