Warning: This article contains spoilers for Stranger Things season 4 part 1

After catching up on Stranger Things season 4, writer Stephen King has an idea for a spinoff series following Yuri Ismaylov. Stranger Things has always been set up to have a 4/5 season run but with its incredible popularity, there are many who aren’t ready to let it go as the end fast approaches. Fortunately for those fans, the writers reportedly have several Stranger Things spin-offs in the works, although very little information is currently available, making any plot line and medium a real possibility.

In the meantime, the latest season has received much adoration from audiences, including from King who has been singing Stranger Things' praises for years. After setting such a high standard with its previous season, the Stranger Things cast and crew has yet to disappoint. Stranger Things fans broke Netflix viewership records last week with the premiere of season 4 part 1. Previously this record was held by Bridgerton season 2 with an impressive 193 million hours viewed, but Stranger Things season 4 soon shot past this with a staggering 287 million viewing hours in its opening weekend.

Stranger Things season 4 part 1 introduced several new characters, and it appears that King has found himself attached to one of them. Yuri Ismaylov (Nikola Đjuričko) is the opportunistic pilot that Enzo, unfortunately, trusts to help Hopper escape the Russian prison. After seeing Đjuričko’s performance, King compares the character to the likes of Bill Hader’s Barry Berkman (Barry) and says he would like to see more of Yuri’s eccentric and skeevy nature, perhaps in a spin-off series. The 80s setting is well established in Stranger Things as the Duffer Brothers include significant moments from pop culture and history. The series takes notable influence from Dungeons & Dragons, and classic 80s movies, particularly horror. As Stranger Things progresses into darker territory, the 80s horror influence becomes more prominent with references to a myriad of King’s works like Carrie and IT, which King has appreciated.

While he may have enjoyed Stranger Things season 4 so far, the writer does have one big issue. King, like many other viewers, feels that splitting the season into two parts was “kind of lame”, highlighting how eager he is to see more of the season. As King has such a clear impact on the series, the continued praise and insights from the author must mean a great deal to the Duffer Brothers. As Stranger Things season 4 continues, Đjuričko still has some appearances to make. With season 5 and some secret spinoffs already in the works, this might not be the last fans see of him, even if it’s not in King’s Barry-style Yuri spinoff series.
