Netflix unveils the official Stranger Things season 4 trailer revealing the epic return of the fan-favorite sci-fi horror series. Created by the Duffer Brothers, the show is primarily set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the '80s and centers on Finn Wolfhard's Mike Wheeler as he and his friends uncover a supernatural conspiracy brewing under their tow, all of which seems to connect to the mysterious superpowered girl, Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven. The cast for Stranger Things also includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Cara Buono and Maya Hawke.

Stranger Things season 4 picks up six months after the events of season 3 and the devastating Battle of Starcourt, where Billy sacrificed himself to save the group while David Harbour's Hopper was seemingly killed while trying to close the gate to the Upside Down. The friends have been split up across the country as their families have moved away from Hawkins, hoping to finally escape the terror that has plagued the town for the past three years and give the kids a normal high school experience. However, when a new threat surfaces and creates a gruesome mystery, the group must find a way to band back together in the hopes of putting an end to the Upside Down once and for all.

With the show having been on a three-year hiatus due to the larger scope of the new season and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the official Stranger Things season 4 trailer is sure to be an exciting treat for fans of the series. Though still effectively keeping much of its mysteries under wraps, the video offers plenty of intriguing hints of what's to come from the penultimate chapter of the series. Between hints of fan-favorite characters meeting their end, namely Sadie Sink's Max, and the reveal of a lot of action being set within the Upside Down itself, the Duffer Brothers' teases of a bigger scale and deeper exploration of the show's mythology does look to be true.

The most exciting tease from the Stranger Things season 4 trailer is sure to be the reveal of the Upside Down's unnamed major villain. While previous seasons of the show have established the Mind Flayer as the biggest threat from the haunting alternate reality, the new trailer reveals an even more intimidating antagonist pulling the strings behind the scenes and seeking revenge against Eleven and her friends. The wait for the show's return is nearly over as Stranger Things season 4 is set to premiere its first half of episodes on May 27.
