Joe Keery's co-star, Maya Hawke, reveals that Steve Harrington becomes an action hero in Stranger Things season 4. First airing in 2016 on Netflix, Stranger Things quickly became a hit with audiences of all ages, transporting viewers back to the 1980s, where a group of lovable teens becomes embroiled in government conspiracies and world-altering supernatural events. While initially introduced as something of an obnoxious villain character, Keery's Steve soon became a fan-favorite part of the show and a close ally to the central group of youngsters.

Season 3 of Stranger Things saw Steve working at an ice cream parlor and working to uncover a secret Soviet plot. The character bonded with the newly introduced Robin (Hawke), and the two were initially thought to be potential romantic partners until Robin admits that she is gay. Trailers for Stranger Things season 4 don't give too much away in terms of what is in store for Steve but do tease that Robin and he will be spending more time with Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Max (Sadie Sink), and the rest of the gang as they solve more mysteries in Hawkins, Indiana.

As part of a virtual Stranger Things set visit that Screen Rant participated in last year, Hawke spoke about what viewers can expect from Steve in the upcoming season, teasing that Keery's character becomes something of an action hero. Hawke reveals that Keery is adept at handling stunt work and even jokes that the actor should be the next Indiana Jones. Check out Hawke's full comment below:

"That stuff is really fun to watch and really fun to act in, and some of it, especially, there’s some amazing action stuff this season. Joe, especially, is such an unbelievable action hero. Like someone make that guy Indiana Jones right away. It’s really inspiring to work with someone who is so good with stunts and so good with imaginary bad guys. But it’s always the most fun to come back into the interpersonal dynamics."

It's not clear exactly what "action hero" antics Steve will be getting up to in the upcoming season 4 of Stranger Things, but Hawke's comments suggest that the show's creators, the Duffer Brothers, will be upping the ante significantly when it comes to exciting stunt work. Hawke also mentions that Keery is skillful at scenes involving "imaginary bad guys," hinting that some of the action scenes Steve is involved with will feature CGI characters. After the defeat of the Mind Flayer in season 3, Stranger Things season 4 has already teased a new big bad, Vecna, and it's possible that Steve will be facing off against the entity in the upcoming season.

Stranger Things has always effectively balanced humor, terror, and sci-fi action, and Hawke's comments suggest that the upcoming season will be heavy on the action front. As season 4 of Stranger Things is the penultimate season of the show, it's likely that the Duffer Brothers will be setting up an action-packed final season. A lot of mystery still remains regarding Stranger Things season 4, but it's clear that viewers should keep their eye on Steve when the show eventually does release its next batch of episodes on May 27th.
