Stranger Things addressed a fan theory about when season 4 will finally release. It's been almost two years since the beloved Netflix series streamed new episodes and there's still no word on the official premiere date. While production on season 4 began in 2020, it wasn't long before the COVID-19 pandemic halted the cast and crew. Of course, delays haven't hindered Netflix from turning the fandom upside down with teases.

After months of the cast being prodded for answers, Netflix surprised fans with a brand new Stranger Things season 4 teaser video. The promo could've just as easily served for an early season of the Duffer Brother's iconic tale. Set in the Hawkins Lab where Eleven and her siblings were experimented on, the trailer seems to be a flashback. The notorious Dr. Brenner's vindictive voice can be heard asking: "Eleven, are you listening?" The only glimpse at any familiar faces flashes at the end when Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) opens her eyes. Mere moments after sharing the trailer, heaps of postulating fans had whipped up intricate theories.

Twitter user @maxnink_ became one of the top replies for questioning the caption of Netflix's video on YouTube. The streaming giant merely wrote "002/004" in the description. While many thought this could mean season 4 was coming on February 4, 2022, @illustrationmn posed an interesting hypothesis that garnered a response from the official Stranger Things account:

The user was quick to point out that the last Stranger Things 4 teaser from back in February of 2020 had a similar description. It seems the numbers aren't meant to be dates, but a counter of the amount of trailers that will be aired before the show streams. Stranger Things responded to the comment with two shifty eyes, an emoji typically used to highlight something. These weren't the only numbers viewers got hung up on.

In fact, the clip opens with numbers. A ticking wall clock shows exactly 3pm, or the numbers 12 and 3, which could point to a December 3, 2021 or March 3, 2022 release date. Others flagged the disk drop game featured in the trailer, which flaunted four visible numbers: 3, 5, 6, and 7. Since the trailer was released on May 6 (5/6), it could signify that the show or another video will be "dropped" on 3/7 or 7/3. Of course, it's all a numbers game. Fans can't stop overthinking each frame as they anticipate season 4, especially since Stranger Things season 3 ended with several tragic cliffhangers.

First and foremost, the show revealed that Jim Hopper (David Harbour) survived the finale explosion and was being held in a Russian prison cell. Meanwhile, Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and her children Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Will (Noah Schnapp) left Hawkins, Indiana for a fresh start. Eleven joins them as she grieves two major life changes: the loss of her powers and father figure Hopper, who the main players believe to be dead. Needless to say, the fandom will keep making up answers until Stranger Things gives them some.
