Netflix reveals that Stranger Things season 4 will officially premiere on May 27 after a near three-year hiatus and will be split into two volumes. Created by the Duffer Brothers, the sci-fi horror series centers on the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980s as it comes under attack from a variety of supernatural threats due to shady government experiments conducted in the area. Stranger Things primarily revolves around Mike Wheeler and his friends as they meet the psychokinetic-powered Eleven, who has escaped from a laboratory, and grow closer to one another while also dealing with the dark entities involving the alternate dimension known as the Upside Down.

Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown lead the cast of Stranger Things alongside Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Cara Buono, Dacre Montgomery and Maya Hawke. Since its premiere, the series has been a major hit for Netflix, scoring rave reviews from critics and audiences alike for its characters, genre atmosphere, soundtrack and '80s nostalgia, bringing in 39 Emmy nominations and six wins and breaking numerous viewership records for the streaming platform. Netflix renewed Stranger Things for season 4 back in late 2019, though a variety of factors have kept audiences waiting for the next chapter, though the wait is nearly over.

After waiting for nearly three years, Netflix has exciting news for audiences as the Stranger Things season 4 release date has officially been confirmed to be May 27. Stranger Things Season 4 Release Date Announcement

Production on Stranger Things season 4 has been a largely rollercoaster affair since the renewal order was announced in September 2019. Filming was originally scheduled to begin at the top of 2020, though went on an extended hiatus due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic shutting things down. The cast and crew would ultimately get back together in September of the same year, with star Noah Schnapp confirming the following September that filming had wrapped for Stranger Things season 4.

The announcement of Stranger Things season 4's release date comes a few months after the first trailer for the new season confirmed that the show would release in Summer 2022. Though the series has proven to be a fan-favorite in its first three seasons, it will be interesting to see if audiences will deliver the same record viewership after the three-year hiatus, namely as the show has been surpassed by fellow Netflix titles The Witcher and Bridgerton in some of its viewer records. Only time will tell when Stranger Things season 4 volume 1 premieres on May 27.
