Nina Dobrev sparks rumors that she’s joined Stranger Things season 4 in a secret role. After a long wait, the hit sci-fi series will premiere on Netflix in mid-2022. The upcoming episodes will take place during spring break, in 1986, as Eleven returns to Hawkins for vacation so she could spend time with her friends and catch up with her boyfriend Mike. As for Jim Hopper, Eleven’s adopted father, though he’s assumed dead, teaser trailers for Stranger Things season 4 have revealed that the character is in a Russian prison.

In step with its expanded scope, as the show looks to move beyond the central setting of Hawkins, Stranger Things season 4 will include a number of new additions to the cast. Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco, and Joseph Quinn are among the names that have signed on as series regulars. Sherman Augustus, Mason Dye, Nikola Djuricko, and several others were also announced as appearing in a recurring capacity. Perhaps most notably, horror legend Robert Englund is also slated to recur in Stranger Things season 4. The actor, best known for his portrayal of Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, will play the imprisoned murderer Victor Creel.

Now, with Dobrev teasing that she’s joined the ensemble, the Stranger Things cast has potentially grown even further. The actress, known for her starring role on The Vampire Diaries, uploaded a photo to Instagram. In it, Dobrev is seen standing outside Hawkins High School. The caption of the photo reads: “stranger things have happened…” You can check out the photo below.

Although unconfirmed, commenters and fans took the post as a sly tease from Dobrev that she’s joined Stranger Things, filming a secret role that went unreported. Speculation quickly mounted about who she might be playing, with some arguing that she could appear as a new teacher in Hawkins High. It is worth noting, though, that Dobrev has long been a fan of the show. Back in 2019, in another Instagram photo, she shared a funny photo of herself and captioned it, in part: “Woke up in the Upside Down. This is my audition for season 4.” It could be the case that Stranger Things co-creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, took her up on the offer.

Dobrev, who is currently enjoying the success of the holiday comedy Love Hard, along with making her directorial debut with a short film titled The One, was lauded for her performance on The Vampire Diaries. She played the main protagonist of Elena Gilbert, often right alongside the villainous Katherine Pierce. She brought a remarkable specificity with each portrayal, making both characters entirely distinct and highlighting different shades of their personality within a single scene. She would certainly be an excellent addition to Stranger Things season 4 if it happens.
